Men, society has laid a burden on us for years. That burden is that we are forced to fulfill a stereotype, doesn't matter which one it is as long as it's a male stereotype. We become jocks, punks, nerds, straight-A students. Why? Because we are demanding acceptance from the world around us. And it has its requirements. we have to like blood, gore, sports, fast cars and violence, and at the end of the day, some of us who do genuinely like and enjoy these things, we're all entitled to our preferences, but society demands that this be our preference. We have all been watching this subculture rise up rather quickly, and with it, some astonishingly inspiring individual rose up with it. And you know what they did? They stared society in the eyes, and with the kindest of smiles, lifted their right hands and rose their middle fingers proud and high in its face. I have seen a physics report by a bold young man willing to take a unique path to show his academic accomplishments. I have seen a music video about a guy who accepts his likings towards this show so much that he expressed it through song. And finally, I saw a young man pull the straightest, calmest face I have ever seen in my life as he gave a report on something that affected his life in a positive and profound manner, even as his peers laughed at him. These men had something that a lot of us don't: courage. |
