It is kind of unfortunate how certain cartoons, TV shows, and other media automatically type-cast the beautiful, feminine girl as the "Prissy Bitch Who Must Always Be the Villain." I hate, hate, hate, HATE that archetype, because it implies having good self-esteem is bad, and you have to go against traditional gender roles in order to be an acceptable woman.
The fact that Rarity subverts this very reasoning and, for once, implants the idea that beauty doesn't have to be a sin as long as you remain close to your friends and you make the most out of it rather than objectifying yourself, or putting down others, is perhaps one of the better things to come out of the show. As long as Rarity retains the "fashionista with a vision and respectable standing in her industry," her character can go wherever it wants. |
