As they open it, the Mayor finds a letter addressed to Spike, from the founder of Ponyville, Marigold. He tells her that she feels sad he couldn’t come back to Ponyville for whatever reason, but hopes that someday, he’ll come back and see how far it’s come, even if she’s gone. She says she wasn’t mad, as friendships are not about how long they last, but the quality of the time spent with them, which Twilight Sparkle sends off to Celestia. The episode ends with a shot of an old painting, made by Marigold, of a large purple dragon soaring through the sky.

Also, although the ponies follow a culture much like our own, many things must be fundamentally different, socially speaking. For example, would jails even exist? The ponies seem to follow a herd mentality, and thus probably wouldn't try to do anything that they see as having negative consequences on the overall well-being of the herd. Not the mention the fact that there's a living, breathing GOD walking about, TWO gods, even. Would all punishment of crime be overseen by the Solar sisters? Banishment is probably a viable and somewhat common punishment, given how quickly Twilight jumped to that conclusion when Fluttershy ran off with Philomena.

Then there's things past crime, such as social gestures. High-fives still exist, as was seen in the episode where Rarity and Applejack sleep over at Twilight's house (I think it was that episode, anyway). Some form of handshaking must also exist, as was seen in the same episode when Applejack offered her hoof to Rarity. How would hugs be handled, one wonders? Kisses? Would there be different gestures for every breed of pony? Pegasi must have elaborate rituals regarding their wings, as must unicorns with their horns.

I already mentioned the theory brought forth in the fanfic: Paradise. (Where Celestia and Luna are burn as Earth Ponies and under-go certain changes as they become alicorns.) At one point it mentions 'Earth Pony' sense where Earth ponies can 'read' or 'know' the land. Even if they hadn't ever been in a place before.

They could find water, food, and shelter in a strange land using this 'Earth Pony sense'. However that wouldn't be a necessity in most modern Earth Ponies. (Unless they worked the land like Applejack and her family.)

So, what makes an Earth Pony special?

I suppose that clears up the issue of cutie marks and their effects on different breeds of pony. But would it be possible for two completely unrelated ponies to have the same cutie mark? I must imagine that repeats of a certain cutie mark must happen throughout history, as there can probably only be so many ways to characterize a talent. But let's say two ponies who happened to live in the same town also happened to have the exact same cutie mark/talent. Oh, actually, I remember seeing a post a while back talking about how blank flanks must exist even into adulthood, and a business of making counterfeit cutie marks. Would such a thing even be viable? Plus some ponies might not necessarily like their cutie marks (would such a thing even occur?), would they actually go far enough as to change it through artificial means?

Then, in Call of the Cutie, Twilight magics some cutie marks onto Applejack, which supports my theory of all ponies having an innate bit of magic in each of them. It also gives us an insight as to the nature of cutie marks. They ARE, apparently, magical by nature, but seem to be a much older, more powerful form of magic, manifested in a physical form on a multicolored pony's ass. If Twilight Sparkle, who's one of the most talented unicorns of her time (seeing as how she can manipulate magic past doing menial tasks related to your special talent) couldn't artificially put a cutie mark on or off, cutie marks must be something entirely different than what could be touched by ordinary magic.

The way I see it, applying magical effects to something takes power - the natural magic of a pony isn't completely still, so it naturally "washes away" any effects placed on them. Inanimate objects don't have this - which is why non-cloud objects can be enchanted to not fall through clouds indefinately, but ponies can't be. The area around a blank flank's cutie mark is simply far more volatile, so any effects placed on that area magically are washed away very quickly.

Another part is revealed that powerful emotions can grow and shape ponies more than normal creatures, especially negative emotions like jealousy, due to their magical affinity, and makes ponies more susceptible to dark ambitions.
