OCs that we hate are of a particular brand, that unfortunately is easy to make. OCs that specifically are significant in the world they live in AND are avatars for the creator.

What this tells us is that the artist, or whoever, is a huge douche and thinks and wants us to think that he is some significant hero, and one of the mane 6 will fall in love with him, and he's better than anyone at some shit.

OC's are okay as long as they fit into the world as is, rather than the world having to change to accommodate them. For example, a pony who works in the cafe that the mane cast occasionally visits would be fine. But Twilight's long lost brother who shows up in Ponyville one day and seduces Rarity then single hoofiedly defeats a rampaging dragon would be bad.

well, okay, but I'll have to keep it pretty brief. My story notes have spoilers and would make like a gigantic wall of text.

Jigsaw is a light brown unicorn with a dark brown mane and blue eyes. His special talent is finding out how things work. His cutie mark is two interlocking gears. Since Antipodes is post-apocalyptic after essentially the pony planet becomes tidally locked with its sun, Jigsaw lives underground in a network of caves. He is in charge of the water distribution and filtering systems. He is extremely logical and can sometimes have a hard time relating to other ponies. He suffered a tragic loss in his past that has helped shape who he is now. (wow it all sounds kinda silly when I just type it out shortform)

Tiptoe is a yellow pegasus. Her mane is orange and her eyes are green. Her special talent is stealth and her cutie mark is a feather. She has lived her whole life in the same cave system as Jigsaw, where pegasi are quickly become obsolete (can't really fly much underground.). her whole life was one big disappointment after another until she was appointed Jigsaw's assistant. She tends to be overly trusting of anyone who treats her well.

Did my recruiting over in my usual stomping grounds so I'm reasonably sure my players won't be awful. I've even played D&D and other tabletop games with a couple of them so I'm cautiously optimistic.

Ponyville seems like a decent choice because while I don't want to have the original characters and content from the show take up too much "screen"time, it'll still be nice to have elements thereof show up here and there in the background. So long as the players don't fuck things up it should go swimmingly.

Got an interesting group so far too, a female, somewhat unbalanced social spitfire pegasus with an aesthetics bent, a male napoleon complex earth pony who's bossy in a Gurren Lagann sort of way, and a brawler Pegasus who has a weaker version of Pinkie Pie's "Pinkie Sense". There's another fella who hasn't finished his character but he's apparently making a female earth pony, tough as nails and dramatic.

They all scream "Original Character: Do Not Steal" but I'm sure any problems can be ironed out once we start slinging dice. Probably.

I'm currently writing up the first adventure I plan to throw them into, first game is set for Sunday night so I'm getting pretty excited.

I'm using the Savage Worlds one, and it actually seems the mechanics already sorta support using creative ways to avoid combat.

Most monsters have scary strength scores, are huge, and will fuck you right up. Their social skills, and ESPECIALLY defenses are average at best.

So, I've gently prodded my players into making more socially inclined characters. While that Dragon over there could technically smush them into paste, they can talk circles around him. The one tough Pegasus is essentially the "ohshit" character. When diplomatic relations break down he's strong enough to fend off a manticore or what have you for long enough for everyone else to get away.

If I need to, I can give enemies the social skill "Swagger" which lets them use their imposingness and strength to intimidate. It should work well for big monsters that aren't so interested in harming the ponies as scaring them off. I'd really rather not end up killing the characters when I throw a manticore at them, after all.

The second show for Hoity Toity had gone a little too well.

In a panic, Rarity drafted everyone who had hands (Spike), telekenesis (Twilight), or a freaky knowledge of sewing (Fluttershy). The others she didn't trust with a sewing machine, let alone shears.

Rarity swiftly modified the designs to fit the most common pony sizes. Prêt-à-porter copies of her dresses, sold in Canterlot! Every time she thought about it, this excited little squeak escaped her lips!

Fluttershy immediately got to work on copies of Rarity's dress, since she had made the first one so well.

Spike was useful in cutting the cloth from patterns. Once Rarity explained the process three or four times.

Rarity put Twilight to work making sure the rest of them didn't run out of materials; she knew better than to let little miss logistics handle anything more artsy than a bird's nest.

Rarity herself started constructing the other dresses.

By the third day, Spike had enlisted the help of a unicorn colt named Snips. Despite his appearance (Rarity shuddered at the sight of his eyebrows!) and the fact that he was the son of one of her competitors (a barber), he proved invaluable, using his horn magic to swiftly and accurately cut the cloth, up to four pieces at a time!

It was a mystery how they got it all done, but Rarity managed to get the crate delivered to Hoity Toity's boutique a day early.

...Which made the returns all the more bittersweet. After all, who would want to wear the same dress as the ponies who ruined the Grand Galloping Gala?
