Face it, ponies of hilariously ill suited to seafaring. And if you are talking sailing ships, they simply couldn't do it. They could not go aloft without falling to their deaths (hooves), and the pegasi, who could, wouldn't be able to actually do anything (again, hooves) and the unicorns, who are the only ones who could do anything, can't go aloft for the first reason.
Ponies cannot into sailing. Simple as that.
They could use galleys, which rely on oars for propulsion, which the barbary pirate actually DID use, but most people don't think of galleys when they think pirate ship. |
