Seeing pinkie pie go crazy was indeed awesome, but the actual plot was pretty suboptimal, using the old cliche string of misunderstandings and carefully worded dialogue at just the right timing and such to make the episode work, and the whole surprise birthday party misunderstanding thing is kind of overdone.
