Bronies, I want to share with you all my opinions about MLP new series.
I must say MLP friendship is magic is perhaps the most distopian and brutal cartoon ever made. A magic world ruled by a totalitarian benevolent tyrant deity which has created a society based mostly on predetermined by genetics role.
All ponies must have a role in Equestrian society related to their "talent", when a pony doesn't has found which "talent" defines him or her, she/he is mostly rejected or deal as a mental impaired and when a pony has found her/his talent there is the chance of trigger a self destructive, psychotic behavior in case she or he cannot perform that task.
There is also the fact people is forced to live in communities thanks to a incredible dangerous environment full of aggressive super predators with super natural skills which force anybody daring to explore the wilderness flee back to the comfort and safety of their urban areas.
There are also "genetic inferior" servant species like mules, pigs...which doesn't have any rights at all but are as sentient as the ponies.
Pony culture is incredible superficial and based mostly in sport or aesthetic performances, sometimes being completely hedonistic (obsession towards self gratification social events like parties) to the point it reminds that of the Elohim from H. G. Wells' The Time Machine.

This deals with the reason behind why Twilight Sparkle is closely controlled by the absolute tyrant of Equestria. Perhaps she fears the unicorn discovers not everything should be as Celestia dictates? Maybe she knows the unicorn could develop enough power for destroy her?

Spent an afternoon reading Severing/Reconnection. First fanfic I read (besides Cupcakes, fucking Cupcakes).

The story concluded too fast (HERP DERP, suddenly they catch TS, suddenly TS is dead, END) then just decided to just slowly fade off (nothing really happens for an entire chapter except the cast growing old), but Breaking the Circle made it less disappointing. The story needs some fleshing out for sure, but I liked it a lot.

Generally, no. Because 7 times out of 10, I abhore editting. I spent several college classes giving that peer review stuff, and it's typically over stories I don't like, where my enjoyment is further choked by my concern for the errors I find.

MLP might be changing my mind about it though. On average, the FiM stories I've read are quite above a significant number of the undergraduate writers I had classes with.

You can catch up on the Fallout stuff pretty quick.
In fact by NOT playing the games, you won't get bored when they retread some of the "missions" from them.
It IS a dark world and terrible things happen in it, but there's a smidge of hope in there too.
But it's the characters that kept me reading.
For instance my favorite is, as always, Derpy. She has become a ghoul due to the end of the world. She's got no skin, is over two hundred years old, her tongue got cut out, and she's the biggest sweetheart. When we first meet her she's caged by raiders and is comforting a kid and then the first thing she does when freed is risk her life to save another kid.

I have a friend whose opinion about books I respect second to only Jesus himself, or possibly some of the arch angels. Every book she's recommended to me has become an instant favorite of mine, and I grow into a huge fan. She's introduced me to most of my favorite authors, like Jaqueline Carey, Jim Butcher. Which brings me back to the main problem: people seem to like fanfiction stories because they appeal to something they also like (specific characters, settings, crossovers, fetishes, etc). An actually good, well written story seems an entirely secondary consideration.
