If you're good at something, never do it for free: If they're good enough to actually ship finished, quality products, they're good enough that they're already employed at a games company. That leaves you with a small sliver of people who are either a) crazy enough to try to make it doing indie gaming, b) DOUBLY crazy to do it with an copyrighted IP that they don't have the license for, c) students/fresh grads building up a portfolio, d) employed devs who still have enough energy or motivation to continue creating and solving problems at home, or e) employed devs who are legally able to produce games in their own times (I imagine this is true for every publicly traded dev; it is for mine, certainly, and is the primary reason why I haven't tried my hand at some stuff). |
