This is something I'd actually like to discuss for a couple reasons.
Will MLP ever get a feature length film? Probably not. That era is officially over for this side of the world. Only Japan still does animated features in theaters. The US/UK side of the world.. well.. No one goes to theaters for cartoons any more, especially not cartoons that are technically aimed at at young children. It's all CG and 3D now.
What was the last animated, non-CGI film you saw that wasn't fully backed by all the monetary might that is DISNEY?
We might get lucky and get an hour long tv special or a multi-part episode, but that's up to the powers that be.
The biggest problem is that because of these sort of threads, the fanbase has acquired a bad reputation. The majority of people who like this show may be mellow and withdrawn in their support. They watch the episodes, they post about it rarely... but the minority? The minority is fucking loud and visible as shit. Everyone sees the disgusting fuckers posting pony porn and writing gratuitous fics about one character fucking another. They see the retards who can't communicate in anything but memes and reaction images.
With that kind of public image, I don't think Hasbro is quite willing to risk any serious money on this. They are probably feeling very lucky that they hit the jackpot and found a new way to sell their toys to an unexpected demographic, but that just means they'll keep this going long enough to drain some change from the adult fans and not a moment longer. Last thing they'd do is give the creepy motherfuckers a reason to go out in public and openly show support for their product in their homemade 'EAT A CANDVAG" t-shirt. |
