Ponies have multiple interests, and they're larger and smaller. Pinkie Pie, for example, is mostly parties, but she's also a good skater and is often seen baking. Rarity is primarily interested in fashion, but if there's a need to have someone act flirty or bat their eyelashes or if someone's going to be interested in the handsome prince, it'll be Rarity.
Never mind that all the lesbian ships are hopeless in a kids' show (although that's not saying they should be or anything, just that they definitely are), you will never see Twilight get a crush on a guy and look up how to ask someone out in a book, or have Applejack try to set up one of her cousins with Dash, or Fluttershy become too shy to talk around some stallion she has feelings for and her friends try to help her get over her fear.
It's a whole angle I can say with a sense of certainty we won't see explored outside of Rarity, because they've assigned it to her as a character trait and that's how the show sees it. |
