"Princess?" In the darkness of the grand bedroom, the silken, starry sheets that lay draped across the royal bed shifted and shuffled, until at last from behind them an elegant face appeared, framed in a flowing, lustrous mane. Celestia, the God-Princess of all of Equestria peered towards her door, silhouetted in cool moonlight streaming through the picture windows of her regal chambers. Her long, shapely neck was draped with her multicolored mane and her eyes, glistening gems behind dark, flourished eyelashes fixed themselves on the lone figure that stood at the threshold to her room.
"Hello, little colt," she said in her delicate, flowing tone. Her every word commanded grace, poise, and care. "Is everything all right?" The orange unicorn pony standing in the doorway shifted uncomfortably from one hoof to another. He was awkward, gawky. He looked uneasy just standing there. His proportions were exaggerated: his neck was long; his chest small. His legs were long and his squared tail was cropped. His green mane, clashing with his coat, was short but unkempt. His cheeks were high and his nose was big. He wasn't lazy-eyed, but he had a habit of staring into space. He was, in a word, ugly.
"Uh," he stammered, rubbing one hoof idly against the other, "muh-... um..." he glanced down, awkwardly. Princess Celestia smiled gently, her expression tender and encouraging, even despite the late hour. "It's all right, my little pony." Her words were so tender, her tone so genuine and gentle. Her elegant, almost glittering hooves straightened the celestial bedsheets. "You don't need to be nervous." "My name is Snails," the colt said with a hesitant pause. He had never felt so nervous. "I uh... gee." he rubbed the back of his head. His accent was strange, thick but not overwhelming. It made him sound a little backwards. Celestial nodded softly. "Why aren't you in the Grand Guest Bedroom with all the other young ponies?" "Aw... it's embarrassing." |
