More than anything I think it varies wildly depending on where you live. Photo Finish's studio, the Paparazzi, the print media, electric lights all support commercial and consumer electricity and a mass print industry.

Unfortunately we look at mass and rapid communication technology as a benchmark for 'advanced' tech, but Equestria has magic as a terribly great equalizer. Dragon Post works just as easily as electronic mail, telegraphs, and semaphore systems.

Seeing the simple presence of an engine train makes me wonder how many "horseless carriages" there are around Equestria. I'm certain we'll see a racecar episode in season two.

Other than that there have been no mention of flutter ponies in this universe. That would mean that the child of Fluttershy and Beedrill would be the progenitor of the flutter ponies race. And anyone who is up to date on their pony history (or anyone who has access to wikipedia) knows that the only thing that can stop the mythical Smooze are... flutter ponies.
