06/23/11(Thu)21:54 No.27103780>>27103503 >No. Logic is not a given. Yes, it is. Here's a statement: A is a subset of B. B is a subset of C. Thus, A is a subset of C. This is a logical statement because any human being with a functional brain (or, rather, any being who is capable of grasping a certain level of abstractness), regardless of outside circumstances, can and will come to this very conclusion every time. It is, independently of any outside factors, always true. How could you possibly even think that this is somehow tied to social and cultural norms? I am not even angry, I'm just baffled. If there's anything that you could possibly put above logic, it's causality, and even then, it is only "above" logic in the sense that without causality, it would be impossible to formulate a statement containing "thus". The actual logical relation between A,B and C would still exist independently of anybody being able to formulate it, though, because the validity of logical relations independent of observers is literally why the universe exists. |
