The pun's didn't translate? Don't worry they used the equivalent in my language or tried to find another great joke to use instead? A song? Who cares it was rewritten to sound great and still make sense. Voices? You had to try very hard to see the difference between the original and and the new voice...

Kind of reminds me of some of the anime's I've watched. Sometimes the people that are translating will use terrible sentence structure, grammar, and words that don't quite fit, just to try and fit in some kind of joke that might have been mildly amusing in the original Japanese.

Applejack would be some kind of logging locomotive. They tend to have tremendous hauling capacity and can climb well, but tend to be slow as a result.
Rainbow Dash would be some ridiculously fast streamlined tank engine.
Pinkie Pie would be an impractical-looking engine that happens to look nice.
Rarity would be an elegant-looking engine from the Europe.
Twilight wouldn't be too different from Thomas; a tank engine build to handle pretty much whatever shit gets thrown at it.
Trixie would probably be a USA dock tank engine; there was a specific type built in the US that got imported to the UK and ended up replacing Thomas's prototype.

It's fun to do a little ancillary world-building, because we're given the potential for a really cool universe yet at the same time the narrow scope of the show means it doesn't get terribly fleshed out.
