Weather in this world dose seem to have some unusual proprieties.
In Equestria all the weather is manufactured and the weather pattern is manually controlled. Also as we can see in episode 6 Twilight could control the wind.
Ponies also seem terrified of the idea of autonomous weather, meaning that it is under their control for a long time. Now the only place where weather is like this is the Everfree forest, a place avoided by ponies witch lead me to the following theory:
Weather wasn’t always on manual, but that was long ago and Pegasus interference was minimal. As time went on the population was growing, food needs increasing making controlling weather a more important aspect. Now that pegasii and maybe unicorns were modifying the weather to their need via magical means witch may have slowly affecting the natural pattern. Basically with thee need of greater control needed the use of magic over weather increase destroying the normal patterns. Now that the natural patterns were fucked up they needed to create their own weather. Since this was probably long ago (the pony civilization is at least 1000 years. They were already organized in communities when Lune went insane so there was enough time for this to happen) ponies just got used with the idea and forgot the past.
