I dunno. Applejack seems highly resistant to injury. Pinkie Pie has a host of physics altering powers and an apparent complete immunity to physical harm in addition to feeling no (physical) pain. Dash can also control the weather in addition to being quite ridiculously, physics breakingly fast.

If we want to not go "It's magic!" then all the ponies are very formidable. I'm personally most frightened of Pinkie's combat abilities, where she to use them. Like some Bugs Bunny Terminator in pink. That can teleport anywhere.

I've also got the feeling that if you entered Fluttershy in a race, and told her there was a sick bird at the finish line or something she would literally run so fast every other pony it would make them spin in circles. We've actually seen Fluttershy keep up with Dash while Flying a few times (like when they both try to run away from Pinkie in Party of One), so I'm guessing she's a really good flyer when she needs to be.

I see Fluttershy as more a throwback to some Earth Pony roots, having a very loose connection with her wings.

But she has the Stare, which is apparently a power in and of itself able to cower a raging dragon, and disable the Cockatrices' magic power.

Pinkie Pie and Fluttershy both seem to have adopted powers that aren't really a racial benefit, like unicorn horns or wings. It's possible, then, that any individual pony can become a giant threat through whatever circumstances it took to give Pie and Shy these abilities.

I also think that might make them craftier being the right word here? Like they find ways to use everything with their hooves and mouth, instead of relying on the "easy way" with Magic.

Also, one thing that makes me wonder is the other Mythical beasts that inhabit Equestria. Dragons, hydras, and Cockatrices are very standard as far as general fantasy goes, so I'm wondering if other things that follow that general suit will appear. In "Dangerous Business" I threw in the idea that the three pony types have different strengths in the fives senses as well. Pegasi have superior vision, obviously; they'd need it for flight. Earth ponies have superior smelling and hearing. Unicorns have better taste and touch because it's the tactile senses that are most used out of the five senses when doing magic.

Applejack is a farm pony. All of those years spent on the farm from sunrise to sunset must have given her share of injuries and made her tougher. We've seen her display her strength in fall weather friends, possessing easily the most powerful kick between the six, breaking strength-testers and sending footballs soaring above clouds. However, we have never seen her kick anything unlike Rarity or Rainbow Dash, so there's no telling what it COULD do on a sentient being, but giving the gap better her and the rest, she could have probably stunned the manticore.

Pinkie Pie is anomaly, in that she is a hyperactive physics bender but was NOT originally like that. She was a normal farm pony, like Applejack, but instead of tending fields, protecting crops and (maaybe) man machinery, she just turned rocks over to the other side. She doesn't seem very strong physically and her abilities are of very little use in crisis (she was scared stiff in FPK).

I'd imagine that Earth Ponies are fucking Tanks. AJ has shown her amazing stamina in clearing half of her orchard and still helping everybody else, while remaining on her feet. And the fact that her, and her family can easily kick a tree with such force as to knock every apple out of it, shows that they are built. I'd imagine that they are the strongest of all the ponies, physically, And the most "hooves on," or "Crafty" as you put it. While unicorns can use their magic for the most precision, Earth ponies are still completely able to use all sorts of tools with their mouths, and able to craft all sorts of things on their own. In a "no-magic" brawl, I'd bet that Earth Ponies would almost always come out on top.

I'd like to think Earth Ponies are really strong, but the show keeps giving me reasons not to. Big Mac for example is really wussy, despite the fanon for him touts him as being strong. He can't pull the plow (it's old, sure, but he can still barely do it), got winded picking up AJ's bags, etc.

Ok guys here is what I've concluded about magic. Do you agree?
Unicorn Magic
Ok now this subject is a bit sketchy.
As seen before unicorn magic is very powerful with no know limits except for the stamina of the unicorn and magical inclination.
A theory is that all unicorns have an initiate magic ability after receiving their cutie mark (witch as Spike said is related to it) but that doesn’t stop them from casting other types of magic. I am saying that because of 2 reasons:
1. The fact that books about complicated spells exists in a small town library, meaning that they are quite common. If all ponies were limited to a very narrow filed of expertise there wouldn’t be that many books about spells since only a few could use it.
2. Celestia’s School for Gifted Unicorns. Now this is the most prestigious teaching institute in Equestria and apparently unicorns enter it when they are still young. The fact that the entrance exam seems quite hard and most unicorns don’t have that much training except what they do in their spar time leads me to think that all unicorns have a huge potential and only through learning they can control it. Those tests seem to have the purpose to see how much potential unicorns have.
So basically what I’m saying is this. All unicorns can cast any spell provided that the have enough mental stamina. If the spell is related to their cutie mark they have an easier time mastering it, maybe even enchanting their effects, but if it’s not it would be very draining. An exception would be unicorns that have a cutie mark related to magic as Twilight.
For example any unicorn could cast Rarity’s gem finding spell, the difference being that it would be draining and wouldn’t have the same range as if it was cast by Rarity. But since Twilight’s talent is magic not only could she cast it easily but also enchant it’s effects.

That sense can be attributed to what some animals have, though. Like how animals know an earthquake or a storm is coming. But hers is far more advanced, if anything I think that her abilities to chase and her "Pinkie sense," may be extensions of her Talent. She can sense parties, and sense parties encompass all sorts of things, she has a bit of a 6th sense when it comes to her environment, something that could help out a lot when throwing a party, and managing the fun. The chasing, though, I think that could be chalked up to "Cartoon physics," like the chasing ability of Pepe Le Pew, either that, or her 6th sense gives her a limited idea of where her opponent is going, so as to cut them off at the pass.

I've always figured Pinkie as a kind of eccentric genius. She seems "so random" to her friends because she is simply thinking that much faster and drawing connections to things at a higher rate than even Twilight could manage. That, and apparently has a photographic memory that she uses on something of a subconcious level. Like when she read a book that was flying at her face with the force of Dash's crash.

Also I think all unicorns come with telekinesis standard, then other spells come naturally to them. Spellbooks probably are as common as recipe books in high unicorn population areas. And I'd imagine all sorts of books, not just spellbooks would probably carry some spells in them, like little extras from the ponies who wrote them. That'd explain why Twilight needs so many different books for spells. I think that most unicorns are very limited outside of their field of expertise (which they excel in), but magic-inclined unicorns (Trixie, Twilight) are open to learning a wide variety of skills they can do well (or even above average), but will not possess the ability to the same extent as the ponies that have their talents lie in such spells that they have been using for years.

Rarity's gem-finding magic would be difficult for any unicorns to learn unless the specialize in gem-hunting, mining, etc. A pony like Lyra/Vinyl (or any other BG pony) have no hope to ever copying the spell. Twilight learned it, but has to recall how to cast it, while it's second nature to Rarity.

Speaking of Vinyl, her skills do not lie in using magic at all. It seems that the type of pony you are is not a primary factor dictating one's calling in life.

Well unicorns and pegasus are both known for having some magic abilities, along with Dragons, and cockatrices. We haven't really had a chance to see dragons using magic in the show yet, but I'd assume they can. Also, the setting of Equestria, and the surrounding lands seems to be just permeated with magic, to the point that almost everything is at least at a dog's level of intelligence, and any animal of decent size is able to talk and hold conversations. This may be a side effect to all the unicorns, ponies, and pegasus around, though. Also, I'd say that, while unicorns can use magic the easiest, other races can as well, but must practice much harder, like a regular mage would.

Honestly, we need more Twist and Snails, not necessarily together. Preferably humanized, the pony versions have nothing going for them and on model fapfic just isn't as boner-inducing.
