I'm moving things to GDocs to be more even-handed, but so far it's been fun writing.
The gardens were … pleasant. Calm. Beautiful. A rich summer sun burst through dense green foliage.
It was perhaps only the size of a small greenhouse, but it took her breath away. Come to think of it, the air was thick with lemony meadowgrass and some form of juniper-
Fluttershy bolted onto the small lush green lawn, bolting out of her jacket and rolling in the hay. Joy had overcome any fear, her laughter echoing off the flagstones. Celestia smiled wistfully, hanging back, eyes darting to the artificial sun wandering the glass canopy. Her guest was totally lost, tumbling over and over, darting to this extinct flower and that endangered insect species. It did her good to see her subject enjoying her secret garden …
The high thin cry of a Phoenix broke Fluttershy's reverie. Fluttershy's eyes scanned the thick canopy - the room was only 40 by 40 feet; how could she not see a giant flaming bird?-
Philomena perched quite happily on pink hair, fluttering her feathers idly. Fluttershy extended a hoof for the bird to stand on - which the Phoenix took, perhaps a little hesitantly.
She didn't even notice Celestia sidling next to her, her frame casting a pale gray shadow on her yellow fur.
She did, however, notice when Celestia wrapped a broad white wing about her middle and held on a bit more tightly than before. It was hard to ignore Celestia's neck craning second-skin to hers, or the easy tense heat of the Princess against her own.
"Princess …?" was the best she could manage, neck refusing to turn to meet her. Her eyes were so firmly bolted to the grass, her breath catching, the easy warmth seeping down to her hooves.
"Shhhh …" whispered Celestia, "It's a secret garden. A room of loud whispers." |
