Each of the ponies is good.

Twilight's adorable, but has a cynical side, which I think a lot of us can identify with, since when we first started watching the show, we were sort of like her: we weren't sure if this was actually good, or just a bunch of stupid kid crap.

Rainbow Dash is great because she's funny, has deep motivations, and is just... cool.

Fluttershy is the concept of adorable given flesh.

Applejack is friendly, funny, and goes beyond the typical "dumb country girl" type.

Rarity is great because she actually managed to make the character type of the fashion girl entertaining and not vapid.

Pinkie is great because she manages to simultaneously embody childlike giddiness, and at the same time, manage to still be entertaining to older viewers.
