06/14/11(Tue)12:38 No.26828869I really hate the CMC. I don't hate Applebloom, I don't hate Sweetie Bell, and I actually like Scootaloo. They, as individuals, are fine. It's them as the group, The Cutie Mark Crusaders, that I hate.
I hate them as a group, because to me, they represent everything that is wrong with children's television. The CMC is a group that is defined by one attribute, and in the execution of their goal, they continually display a lack of the ability to learn from what they do. The only reason for this is to maintain a status quo. They are incapable of learning from their mistakes for the sole reason so that they can make them again. That's not good writing, it's embracing the maintainence of the status quo, for the sole reason of not having to develop the characters.
I personally find their interactions with other characters to be much more interesting when they are not functioning as the CMC. Appplebloom's interactions with the rest of the cast offers an interesting perspective on the main 6, one from an outsider.
Sweetie Bell offers a unique perspective as well. Scootaloo's interactions with Rainbow Dash are always adorable.
It's when the three of them get together and start obsessing over their cutie marks, and ignoring blatantly obvious advice that they become shallow, 2 dimensional characters. |
