learning the basics of archery is easy, mastering it is a whole fucking other different level, with calculations for wind strength, direction, heigh level difference, etc etc.

Go on Saturday at I think around 9 or 10. It's been a while since I've gone.
And I forget the name of the group that meets (and when) though I think it meets every 3rd sunday.
Paleoaleo is one of the guys who does the bow making class.

And the only SCA group I know of is in Burbank, but they only do heavy combat and fencing. Though I'm sure you can ask around for the archery group they have. (They have one) And I believe it meets on Wednesday, but I don't know what archery range.

Also, the arroyo park has a class to learn basic shooting, and they have classes to learn different types of shooting, and how to shoot when you choose the kind of bow you want to focus in. (Horse/longbow master race here.)
