Family... Well I used to record it and watch it with my sister. I just like to have SOME knowledge on the subject before I write about it. Beyond where to stick it.

The thing about writing sex fanfiction is that it is VERY hard to do convincingly. To be done well, sex should not be the point of the fic, just a part of it and even then you have to work your way up to it without breaking the characters. Taking it too fast or doing sex for the sake of sex would break any suspension of disbelief. This is only made harder when the author has no personal experience with a relationship on that level.

I guess you could say I'm not up to the challenge, but it really boils down to the fact that I don't think I'm equipped to write it.

My little sister was firmly against watching the show until one of her friends managed to get her to watch an episode. Now the only episodes she hasn't seen are Look Before you Sleep and Owl's Well That Ends Well.

When it comes to sex fics, Raging Semi has the market cornered and apparently he does it very well (although I still wish he would write some more none sex stuff like he did as HFPS). I've yet to read any of his stuff myself though. Butterscotch Sundae did a fantastic piece (Swayback Mountain) that did a VERY good job at building up the characters and the romance to make for a very believable, and in the end completely tasteful (and mostly glossed over) sex scene.

I came in to the fandom the day before Cutie Mark Crusaders aired back in January. That was the beginning of the first big hiatus the show went on.

The amount of creative juices that flowed in these threads back then was amazing. The hiatus was one of the best things that ever happened to us.

Then the community got bigger. Everyone started writing fanfictions and THAT part of the fandom became over saturated. More and more porn started turning up when /b/ sunk it's teeth into it. Then came the mod hissy fit in February and the rash of two week bans against most of the best contributors... and we never really recovered from that. Not to mention things have really fallen apart since the show ended.

Personally I think the first step to fixing the community is creating a new, separate site for pony fanfiction and only feature some of the most popular stuff on EqD.

As the past few events have shown, the amount of writers and stories being pumped into that blog is too much for that system to handle well. A division needs to be made. Having a separate site for it would 1) clear up a lot of the clutter on the blog and 2) allow a more focused venue for writers to get feedback on their work.

He only has it cornered because nobody else is doing it, which is the number one reason he started. That would like if the only person drawing porn was No-Ink, then he'd have the porn market cornered, like he used to. BrotherPrickle was our only other fapfic writer that wrote them on a regular basis, but he stopped. Disco drew lots of porn based off of Prickles works. Some of the best he's done, actually.

As for Semi writing good sex fics, they aren't anything special. He rarely proofreads them and never polishes the stories. He openly admits it too, it's no secret. You can compare his sex fics to cheap fast-food. It's quick to serve, but the quality is shit. Still, fast-food is good when you are hungry and when nobody else is out there making porn fics, you take what you can get.
