Celestia is one of the last survivors of the previous inhabitants of the planet, along with her sister. She was an empress, a sorceress of incredible power, who, though not evil, was greatly responsible for the cataclysmic conflict that destroyed the old world. Her great enemy, and the other precipitator of the war, was a powerful Witch Queen, whos form was wholly destroyed by Celstia, at the cost of the world itself. Celestia fled to the far reaches of the world, and took for herself a new and entirely different form, and set about molding one of the surviving species into something she could control. Her great enemy, deprived of a physical form and sworn to an eternity of vengeance, hid herself in the darker places of the world, and resolved to strike back at Celestia in the one place she was vulnerable- her sister. This is the entity that would become nightmare moon.
Celestia raises the sun because she has to. The war that brought about the end of the old world saw the use of of such devastating magics that the very sun and moon themselves were extinguished. The ones the sisters raise today are pale mockeries of what existed before. |
