You're sitting on a bench. You're reading a book about gardening in preparation for the summer season. It's a rather lovely early summer's day, a light breeze whistling through the large oak tree standing above you in the town's square. People bustle about, buying various goods from the farmers who have set up shop with their carts of farm-grown produce. It's not yet the day of the farmer's market, so the noise isn't enough to distract you from your reading.

Suddenly, the peace is broken by a high-pitched squeal. You look up from your book to see a brightly-clad girl dashing into the square, coming dangerously close to spilling into the town's central fountain but stopping just short of plunging herself in. She is chasing a flock of ducks, but nearly immediately upon realizing where she is, appears to lose all interest. She looks around the square energetically, whipping her head back and forth almost comically.

Her eyes come to rest on you. She starts toward your bench with a friendliness bordering on aggressive. Though she is beaming from ear to ear, the shine in her eye might almost frighten you if not for the mountains of bright pink curls bouncing jovially atop her head with each skip in her step.

She knows your name. Of course she knows your name. Pinkie Pie knows EVERYbody in Ponyville. All of her friends are busy, and she wants to play. Most of them you know of but can't remember ever having stopped to visit before.

You don't have to say much. Your vivacious guide seems to talk for minutes on end, rambling mostly about your previous and future destinations, while diverging on tangents about food, friends, and fun, with hardly a moment for you to get a word in edgewise. Still, you don't mind. Her energy is contagious, and you can't help but find yourself smiling at her sprightly joy in the face of the seemingly endless list of things she wants to do.

Your quest takes you outside of Ponyville, to the nearby lake. Here the girl wastes no time in rolling up her pant legs, kicking off her shoes, and splashing into the water. She bends over, and seconds later returns, cupping a small frog in her hands, which she transfers into your care. For over an hour you catch and release small animals in the shallows of the lake.

Finally, for a brief moment, she seems worn out. You head into the shade of a nearby tree, backed by the still-sunlit field of grass between you and Ponyville. You make to relax against the tree's trunk. Before you can sit, the girl rushes you, wrapping her arms around your neck in a tight hug. She presses her head into your shoulder briefly. She is neither fat nor skinny, but she has an ample build, and, enveloped in her embrace, you can feel her curves pressing against your chest and stomach. Her hands are still wet from the pondwater, leaving two slightly damp spots on your back. Her skin is filmed with an almost imperceptible layer of sweat, cold where her arms touch yours, but she smells faintly of freshly-cut grass and earth. She smells of life.

The embrace catches you off-guard, and you fall backward into the grass, with her on top of you. Before you can blink an eye she rolls off of you, laughing hysterically. She springs to her feet, and, without a moment's pause, runs laughing into the tall grass, her arms and hands outstretched as if to catch the wind and simply fly away. She runs in wide, looping circles as you watch her, feeling...

I don't know if this is good or bad. It's awesome that they acknowledged that the show has older fans, but honestly from the first few comments on EqD and how far they went with this, it just corroborates a sneaking feeling I've had lately that this has gone from 'an older fanbase' to a "fandom." I'm sure I don't have to describe what that entails.

I know that it's the Hub, and not the show itself, but I seriously hope that the show never goes this far in allowing the fandom to influence it. I never wanted recognition from the show. I never called myself a "brony." I never wanted to watch a My Little Pony made for me. I fell in love with the My Little Pony for girls, and I really hope that that aspect of the show doesn't change.
