You know, it's funny, how if you go in the past, even a few years ago, how the shows that got dedicated, obsessed fandoms and quality fanfiction were ones that dealt with adventure, mysteries and solving them, defeating villains through cunning skill, blowing up time traveling nazis in the old west and stuff like that.
Boys and girls alike would laugh and cheer for the hero, pretend to be them while playing with their friends, and write fanfics and stories of their own with their good ol' fashioned imaginations. Shows about girls eating cupcakes, playing hopscotch, and talking about "boys" would be laughed at by their primary demographic, because why would they watch a tv show about stuff they do everyday?
Now, fast forward to 2011. One of the most popular cartoons with the most rabid fanbase is "My Little Pony"; loved by the internet and real life alike. Now... look at it's most popular fans. Grown men. Who knows how many young boys will grow up with their most precious cartoon watching memories being of girl ponies eating cupcakes and checking out "hot boys" between saving the world with "magic"?
Think about that for a second, oh manly pony men.
I would go on more about the efeminization of the American male, but that would just make this tl;dr.
Pic related, "bronies" - it's every single one of you. |
