I think there are certain fanfic writers who are, and some who aren't all that loud about their work. You've got a lot of people who politely post their stuff on EqD, bump it when relevent, and then move along.
Other folks, usually tripfags, will advertise their work relentlessly. They tend to get a lot of notice, even if their writing isn't all that good, because they pester everybody to look at it. Sometimes their work is interest, sometimes not, but by far among the most popular fanfics seem to have been written by tripfags, as far as I can tell.
Not to mention, many of the better known fanfic tripfags also wrote porn sometimes, so they have that following.
As for me, I find that modestly posting a link to your work and seeing what you get usually provides few results here on 4chan. My fic hits don't usually increase much unless I update with EqD or add a new chapter in general, really.
It leads me to believe the 4chan crowd isn't specifically in it for the fanfiction most of the time, which makes sense. |
