Fuck you, /co/. You know what? Instead of complaining about constant threads you don't like, why not try and make a permanent thread for something you do?

    So. Adam Westan', TAS-an', Morrisonan'.

I wonder what his role will be in Flashpoint, actually. The FCBD preview implies that he'll be on the Flash's side, but the preview they posted on the DCU blog implies that he's a part of the Gotham underworld or something.

Lord Death Man was shot into space.
3 issues spent chasing Ouroboros agent named Otto Netz/Doctor Dedalus, 3 and 4 were good with 4 having the best art(Chris Burnham). 4 was actually one of the best comics I read all year. But number five went back to Paquette and had a TWEEEST ending, it was mediocre. But, it re-introduced the African Batman who wears a robot suit and crashes Leviathan meetings.

It looks to be a mix of both. Someone was fucking with the time stream and Flash has to set things right. Was originally just supposed to be a Flash storyline but other writers/artists/etc wanted in and they expanded the hell out of the world.

Something's might stick, I suspect Barry might die again, but for the most part it's separate continuity.

I just know Dick's with the Flying Grayson's in Deadman and the Flying Graysons, Wonder Woman is more closely depicted as the Mythological Amazonian's, Batman works by day running the Wayne Casinos and the Joker has some relationship to the Wayne family, Superman was actually caught by the government on landing, and Deathstroke is a pirate.

I'm picking up a few of the issues when they start dropping in June because it sounds interesting enough.

Reverse-Flash decides to fuck with The Flash on a mega-scale by going back in time and screwing shit up. It's a sort-of canon Elseworlds story that will obviously be fixed by the end of the event.

There are, like, fifteen tie-in miniseries, but you'll only need the main book for the event itself. The rest of it is basically a background into the world itself. The only other tie-in is Booster Gold. All other DC books are keeping to their own schedules.

    "ewww! The status quo!"

    Don't like status quo?

Read something that's not a serial comic by one of the big two.

The sentiment may enrage you, but people that don't expect these characters to stay pretty close to the
status quo confuse the hell out of me. That's the whole point of characters like Batman. There are a few lasting changes now and again, but for the most part it's about telling your own stories with an interesting character that has a pretty solid status quo. You're playing with a toy everyone's meant to share. If you're looking for comics big changes aren't torn off and thrown in the trash immediately afterward, you're reading the wrong books.

Nope. In KC Batman and Talia fucked and she gave the kid to adoption like in the GN Batman: Son of the Demon. Ibn grew up away from his biological parents. It should have been like that, but Grant Morrison fucked it up when he tried to establish Batman: Son of the Demon as canon, because he didn't read the said GN he was trying to make canon.

"Kultek" was Morrison's first choice for name of the group. It made it as far as the early scripts, but he decided not to go with it.

Leviathan is the name of both the organization, and apparently it's leader. Or the organization is some sort of collective and the leader is just a symbolic figurehead, hence the name.

"Oroboro" is not the name of the organization. It's the name of an ancient, fifth form of matter discovered by long-lost civilizations, that Otto Netz has dedicated his life to rediscovering.

Tim is a fine Robin, but he's much better doing his own thing. For the decade, Tim's been a serious and moody character, which does little to compliment Bruce's serious, moody demeanor.

Bruce and Dick are obviously the best team, regardless of how relatively silly most of their stories were, by virtue of being the original. Bruce and Dick are the platonic ideal of a superhero and sidekick team, and have been adapted and given tribute to and parodied a countless number of times over the past 70 years.

Dick and Damian are the new hotness, a great twist on a classic formula that brings back what made said original feel special in the first place.
It's Robin as Batman and Batman as Robin.

Jason was a Robin for four years.

Tim is from a totally different time period than Dick-Robin, Dick was written for and to be a sidekick in the 40s. Tim was established as a separate entity from Bruce almost from the get go. Tim is basically the only Robin they even really gave a /chance/ to sell by himself.

Based on your standards, Tim's 'real' competition for Robin is going to be Damian.

    Okay, and... again.

What the fuck is wrong with "the way things are"?

There are books that have a pretty fucking set status quo, and different writers come in and try to tell stories within that framework.

If you don't like that? GOOD NEWS! There's a SHITLOAD of FANTASTIC stories out there, creator owned works, that have a beginning middle and end. You don't read them going "oh ______ could never stay dead," or "I bet the next writer will undo that."

If, however, what you want is for there to be no real status quo for Batman, Superman, Captain America, etc.... well tough shit, because you're not going to get your wish. It's your own damn fault if you're frustrated and disappointed, you're expecting big changes to last in books that everyone wants to play with. Morrison's work will be largely on the rubbish-heap a few years after he's gone, because people grow up wanting to write "Batman" not wanting to write "Grant Morrison's Batman".

Back during World War 2, highly regarded Nazi science explorer Otto Netz, nicknamed Doctor Dedalus, is approved by Hitler to go on an expedition to England to find a mysterious element with ties to Celtic myth, known as "Oroboro", an element that could serve as an infinite power source. The genius Netz has an agenda of his own, however, and goes rogue, first to England where his discoveries are highly welcomed, then resurfacing in Argentina with a new identity to eventually rebuild the United Nations spy department. He dubs it "Spyral" and takes on the title of Agent-Zero as head of the department.

Decades later, in Gotham City, the brilliant, beautiful daredevil Kathy Webb grieves the death of her wealthy husband Nathan Kane, and keeps his last name out of respect. She has inherited all of his money and possessions, and had already received a carnival called Kane's Kolossal Karnival from him as a birthday present. She is approached by Spyral Agent-33 to join their agency on request of Agent-Zero, and agrees. Her assignment is to investigate the mysterious Bat-Man of Gotham and discover his real identity. She attempts to do this by creating the superhero identity of "Batwoman" to draw his attention and engaging with him in a faked romance. However, Kathy genuinely falls in love with Batman, and they plan to get married. Agent-Zero criticizes her for this and the fact that she had revealed her identity to Batman while still not knowing his. Kathy wants to back out of the assignment and threatens to reveal Agent-Zero's real identity as Otto Netz/Doctor Dedalus. Dedalus in turn reveals that Kathy is his own daughter. Kathy realizes Batman would be devastated if he ever found out the truth, and ends their relationship after one final Tango of Death, leaving Batman heartbroken.

Years later, Agent-33 unknowingly leads Kathy Webb-Kane to her death by Dedalus' machinations. Batman is made to believe she was killed by the men of the Sensei, a supervillain with ties to Ra's Al Ghul.

During the Falklands War, Dedalus decides the time is right to set his own plans in motion, and betrays his own organization. He travels to the Falklands where he is cornered by the British superhero team the Victory V's, consisting of Mr. Albion, Iron Lady, Fadar, Captain Carnation and Knight. Dedalus kills all of them besides Knight with his mysterious mystic Cloak of Smoke, but is finally subdued. Due to his dangerous nature the UN decides to keep him imprisoned on the secluded island, not knowing he's taken and hidden Mr. Albion's Hammer of Wayland Smith, an ancient Celtic artifact with magic abilities with possible ties to Oroboro. Dedalus is guarded in shifts by teams of highly trained NATO special ops marines, always coming in threes.

In the present day, Batman is in Argentina to recruit a new member for the Batman Incorporated organization: Don Santiago Vargas, AKA El Gaucho, Argentina's most respected crimefighter. Unbeknownst to Batman, Vargas was also Agent-33, who took up the superhero business after Spyral was disbanded after Agent-Zero's betrayal. The two join forces on a mission to rescue three kidnapped blind impoverished children, eventually leading them on the trail to crimeboss El Papagayo. While chasing Papagayo they're attacked by exploding blue robot scorpions, the calling card of the assassin Scorpiana. Papagayo is killed by one of the scorpions before he can reveal his boss' identity, but his parrot repeats the name "Oroboro".
    >> Anonymous 05/09/11(Mon)19:38 No.25788777
    >>25788751

Later, at Don Santiago's mansion in La Boca, Bruce Wayne meets Tristessa, Santiago's long-term flame, whom both know is actually Scorpiana. She dances the Tango of Death with Bruce as she attempts to use a poison ring on him inscribed with the word "Oroboro". Realizing this can't be a coincidence the two figure out the word is referring to a book by the same name, written by a man known as Espartaco Extrano. Extrano and his entire life story, however, was a fictional creation made up by a group of avant-garde Argentine writers know as the Florida Group back in the 1920's. Extrano's fictional murder by three blind assassins took place at a location known as the Casa D'Oro. Batman and El Gaucho travel to Casa D'Oro, which has been turned into a giant trap designed specifically for them by master trapmaker El Sombrero. Sombrero is working on commission from Doctor Dedalus, and collaborating with Scorpiana. Batman and Gaucho escape the death trap, defeat Sombrero and leave to chase after Scorpiana.

While all this is happening, the second Batwoman, Kate Kane, is on the trail of a hitman known as Johnny Valentine, back in Gotham City. Valentine, on order of an Argentinian group, was responsible for the assassination of three NATO marines intended to be the aging Doctor Dedalus' new guards/caretakers. She chases him through Kane's Kolossal Karnival, and fights a Kathy Kane impostor, whom we later learn was trained by Scorpiana. Batwoman lost Valentine, but he'd previously dropped an Oroboro ring, which her military intel discovers refers to a military secret being kept on the Falklands, so Batwoman is sent en-route to the island where Dedalus is being held prisoner.
    >> Anonymous 05/09/11(Mon)19:39 No.25788803
    >>25788777

On the island in question, Dedalus' last remaining caretaker is poisoned and killed. His new guards are in fact agents of Leviathan, a secretive global criminal organization, having taken the place of the marines assassinated by Johnny Valentine. Batman, El Gaucho and Batwoman all arrive at the island, along with The Hood, a British superspy from a spy organization known as T.H.E.Y., likely formed after Spyral was disbanded. Hood is on a mission to investigate the situation and prevent it from escalating, but his primary objective is actually to infiltrate Batman Inc. Dedalus' ultimate plan was to plunge the world into war: The assassination of the NATO marines and luring British, Argentine and American agents to the island, causing the UN to start pointing fingers at each other and fight over the possession of Oroboro, the infinite power source. The trigger for the war would be a massive shockwave generated by a "meta-bomb" created from Mr. Albion's hammer, causing the supposed destruction of Oroboro and the deaths of the superheroes and Dedalus himself. The Argentine, British and American members of the UN would start blaming each other for this, the start of a chain reaction to plunge the world into war. However, Batman deactivates the bomb using the missiles on his Bat-plane, and El Gaucho, Batwoman and the Hood defeat Scorpiana and Dedalus' caretakers/collaborators. The heroes discover that everything Dedalus had been saying was in fact a recording made years ago, as Dedalus is revealed to be in the final stages of Alzheimer's, unable to remember even his own name. The prime motivation for his plan is revealed to be his discovery of his disease.
    >> Anonymous 05/09/11(Mon)19:39 No.25788817
    >>25788803

However, this is revealed to be misdirection, as Dedalus had already escaped the island prior to the heroes' arrival with the help of Leviathan. The man with Alzheimer's was planted there as a decoy, but Batman is naturally suspicious and figures it out. He knows Dedalus is still out there. Dedalus is now working together with Leviathan to take over the world, the mystery of Oroboro has yet to fully be revealed, and the game has just begun.

The final scene of the book is a prologue to the next storyline, a new Batman Inc. member named David in an unnamed African country uncovering a Leviathan indoctrination school. He is picked up by Batman, who is continuing his mission to recruit more members for Batman Incorporated. To be continued.

Why would you assume otherwise? Was it just the idle mind of a man gone mad, or was it a flashback to the death of a guy that's the exact double of someone still alive? Good question, utterly not clear. There are flashbacks in flashbacks, there are three new intelligence agencies introduced, there's a guy named Leviathan that's the head of Leviathan, and a character that's been dead for decades might be alive thanks to a bit of dialog spoken by a man that's meant to be the impostor of her dead father... but if she's not alive, why put the line in there at all?

The story's a mess, and only the only ones that could call it straightforward are the people determined to claim that Grant has no flaws whatsoever.
