Later, at Don Santiago's mansion in La Boca, Bruce Wayne meets Tristessa, Santiago's long-term flame, whom both know is actually Scorpiana. She dances the Tango of Death with Bruce as she attempts to use a poison ring on him inscribed with the word "Oroboro". Realizing this can't be a coincidence the two figure out the word is referring to a book by the same name, written by a man known as Espartaco Extrano. Extrano and his entire life story, however, was a fictional creation made up by a group of avant-garde Argentine writers know as the Florida Group back in the 1920's. Extrano's fictional murder by three blind assassins took place at a location known as the Casa D'Oro. Batman and El Gaucho travel to Casa D'Oro, which has been turned into a giant trap designed specifically for them by master trapmaker El Sombrero. Sombrero is working on commission from Doctor Dedalus, and collaborating with Scorpiana. Batman and Gaucho escape the death trap, defeat Sombrero and leave to chase after Scorpiana.
While all this is happening, the second Batwoman, Kate Kane, is on the trail of a hitman known as Johnny Valentine, back in Gotham City. Valentine, on order of an Argentinian group, was responsible for the assassination of three NATO marines intended to be the aging Doctor Dedalus' new guards/caretakers. She chases him through Kane's Kolossal Karnival, and fights a Kathy Kane impostor, whom we later learn was trained by Scorpiana. Batwoman lost Valentine, but he'd previously dropped an Oroboro ring, which her military intel discovers refers to a military secret being kept on the Falklands, so Batwoman is sent en-route to the island where Dedalus is being held prisoner. |
