I don't see the reason to be so pessimistic. Bear in mind that the vast majority of childrens' cartoons don't have anywhere NEAR the level of characterization that MLP: FiM does. This show has displayed, in only one season, not only remarkable consistency in each pony's personality, but also shown each one of them at their limits. Faust has left such a well-defined foundation for the mane cast that as long as those outlines are followed and not drastically altered, there is pretty much no way the show could deteriorate into shit. I don't watch this show for the plot or the morals or even the humor, I watch it because the characters are extremely well-built, likable characters. Unless whoever happens to continue the show decided to just scrap fucking everything and go in an entirely new direction, your fears are unfounded. Nobody is going to take a successful formula and alter it too much. Not to say changes won't be made, but there's such amazing groundwork here that no amount of little changes could possibly upset the core of the show.

But drama is fun, right? So you guys will continue to bitch and moan right up until the season 2 launch, and then you'll probably bitch and moan some more and call it the worst shit ever made before you come to your senses a month later, realize it's the same old show, and resume your normal fandom.

Eh, the LOTR part mostly applies to the design of the world, not the storytelling and characters. Maybe the show could've been better if it had been more adventurous (although then we wouldn't have Party of One, for example), who knows?

I just hope the show at least stays the course. Maybe the balance between Faust and Hasbro was actually a good thing, without someone who has a clear idea of what Ponyville is supposed to look like, I can see it deteriorating into a mere toy commercial.

Like, she makes her report a lot, she visits Ponyville, which seems to be a fairly inqonsequential town, many times, just to see T.S. and her friends.
And then there's the Pheonix thing and the Gala.
