Lauren said several times that working on the show was hell due to her abundance of responsibilities, but they she kept going due to positive response.

What probably happened is just that she built up the pony apparatus to the point where she assumed it could run without her and is taking a break to pursue other projects. Working as hard as she did probably didn't leave much time for other things that she wanted to do.

Plus, now that she has this wildly successful and well-reviewed yet unconventional show on her resume, it'll probably be a lot easier to sell studios on ideas for girl-oriented shows. If she wanted to cash in on MLP from that angle, now's the best time.

The animators probably have enough stock of different crap to pull from season 1 to speed things along, and they have more time now to double check things than in the start of season one. >Well that's it. Season 1 of MLP: Friendship is Magic is finally over. I have to say its been a blast. It has to be one the best cartoons I had the pleasure of working on. And its even more great that many people enjoyed it. It makes the whole effort, worth it!
