"Celestia, am I not your best student?"
Twilight's voice echoed throughout the throne room, empty save for herself and Celestia, who was staring at the moon outside. Idly Twilight wondered where Luna was - since the crisis she and Celestia had been rarely seen apart.
"Indeed you are, my little pony." Celestia's voice had begun to sound different. Worried.
"Then why," said Twilight, anger building in her voice, “have I not been selected to be a primarch of one of the new Mareine legions? Did I not defeat Nightmare Moon and redeem Luna with the elements of harmony? Have I not excelled at the learning friendship is magic? Have I not—“
“You have,” said Celestia simply, “and that is why you will not become a primarch.”
Twilight clamped down on a screech of frustration, “You highness, I am confused.”
Celestia turned toward Twilight. In the moment their eyes made contact Twilight for the first time sensed the immense age of her Princess.
“I am about to send you on a quest, Twilight. I do not do this lightly, for you will see terrible things. Whole worlds chocked with ash and smog. Wild abominations that make the creatures in the Everfree forest look as harmless as Fluttershy. Terrible, twisted things that may have once been ponies…” Celestia sighed, “but recent events demand action. The human hordes are ravaging my kingdom, and the dread forces of Chaos that once turned Luna into the Nightmare Moon are once again stalking the land. Tough decisions must be made.”
“Then… what am I to do?” |
