Rainbow Dash- Loses and never discovers the joy of winning, instead takes her competitive spirit the darker route and aims to get revenge against the bullies who she thinks humiliated her in front of the rest of cloudsdale. She discovers an early knack for shaping clouds while she huffilly flutters throughout town, and she builds a big booming thunder cloud which she then shoves over to scare the bullies. She gains a dark storm-cloud cutie mark with twin lightning bolts shooting from it and goes on to become the similarly feared and respected storm-maker for all of equestria.

Obvious out of the way.

Twilight wouldn't have been Celestia's student, most likely winding up being a libarian or historian.
Pinkie would still be farming rocks.
Fluttershy would've stayed the same.
Rarity would've given up fashion and just stuck with clothes making. Or been inspired to be a miner.

Fluttershy: After flunking out of flightschool, she eventually travelled to the ground and discovered her love for animals. Staying with them, she eventually discovered her empathy.

Pinkie Pie: Do any of us seriously believe she was raised on a rock farm? Oh well, she saw a flower or something and tried to spread smiles.

Rarity: She tried to leave the rock only to be dragged back to it time and again. Finally, so angry, she kicked the rock and found the gems. While the play didn't go over well, she tried again with gems and discovered her love of fashion.

Twilight is never recognized as powerful and so Trixie takes up the mantle of magically gifted unicorn. Trixie gathers together a bunch of people that express the elements of harmony, 'cos as long as they have all six they can use it.

Dash flys anyway. So Mario has defeated Bowser, again, and decides he needs a different kind of adventure from beating Bowser over and over again. So he and his brother Luigi go on a grand voyage across the sea to discover some exotic and new lands. Bowser follows them because he's pissed that he got beat again and he wants to see if any of the lands that they find has some sort of secret untapped power to help him defeat Mario. So Mario and Luigi are on their grand voyage and they land in, what a surprise, Equestria. A new land of magic and mystery! The two are happily greeted by the ponies of Equestria and they go off on an adventure. Along the way they get tired and rest in the little town of Ponyville. Now, by this time Bowser has sent out spies and what not to retrieve information about any secret magic do dads he could get and in the process learns of the Elements of Harmony. Bowser kidnaps the main six and builds some sort of contraption to try to drain their powers. This is not the case however. Instead of draining their powers the machine actually weakens the magic keeping Luna from turning into Nightmare Moon. So Mario and Luigi must go on a quest to save the main six and defeat Nightmare Moon, AGAIN. i could delve into this deeper but i'd rather not right now.

The Spellsinger family is a proud noble family of unicorns with a strong talent for magic. They have stayed pure of mixed blood from other ponies, both of a different breed or different caste. Except once...

Star Glory, daughter of the Archmagus of Donaran, flitted with males during her younger years, and at some point forgot to enact the proper protective spells. When her foal was born it was a female Pegasus.

Disgraced, she and her foal was disowned and banished from family grounds, stripped of her name and with all record of her existence destroyed. Glory went mad with grief and convinced herself that she had never been a part of the Spellsingers, passing these beliefs onto her daughter. Her insanity grew to the point where she started altering herself and her daughter to differ in appearance, leading finally to her death when she ripped her own horn out and, believing herself to be a Pegasus, threw herself off a cliff in an attempt to fly.

The filly that would go under the name Rainbow Dash has only fragmented memories of her past, but the scars run deep. Even when she's coloring her hair every so often to keep herself from looking like something she can't remember she doesn't think twice about it. It's just an automatic reflex. She isn't even capable of understanding her unpainted self enough to relate it with the appearances of her cousin Pokey Pierce, who moved into Ponyville recently, or her wandering half-sister Trixie...

However, while the unicorn blood can be taken from a Spellsinger the magic cannot. It only manifests itself in other ways...

Rainbow Dash: Fails her Rainboom and is blown back, crashing hard as she's not able to balance herself properly at this age. She ends up breaking her right wing badly, and is unable to fly beyond short bursts forward. She now taxis up to Cloudsdale where she works as a trainer for young pegasi, who only know her as that grouchy teacher who hates the Wonderbolts. Her cutie mark's a normal grey-white cloud.
Rarity: After yelling "STUPID ROCK" kicked it hard, and it tumbled off the cliff on top of the Diamond Dogs, breaking open in front of them with her on top. The Diamond Dogs somehow get it in their heads that the Pony was sent by the gem gods as a prophet, and Rarity rolls with it. She now lives underground as a tribal avatar of The Great Gem of the Sky, and has the Diamond Dogs under her hoof as her acolytes. Her cutie mark is a bright gem with an eye in the middle.
Applejack: Stayed in Manehattan with her Aunt and Uncle, and learned to enjoy the city life. She now is the young owner of her own company, Apples and Oranges, a Consulting Firm for trade with international businesses. She is happy with her life, but she feels in the back of her mind bad of leaving Big Mac and the gang behind. Her cutie mark is a wine glass of sparkling apple cider.

It would be neat if they were there, but smaller. It would be funny to see Twilight keep freaking out throughout the whole episode. Every time it looks like they are going to have some blood ritual, it turns out to be some celebration of the sun/life, and the imitation blood that's covering the walls is spilled paint or fruit juice.

I've never been one for fanfiction, but for some reason I decided to contribute a bit. I created an entirely new pony and wrote a mockup episode to introduce him in. Rainbow Dash: Probably ends up a healthier, happier pony, honestly. Losing her first race teaches her not to base her self-worth on performance. She still finds out she loves racing (and winnning) eventually, but doesn't have the crippling self-doubt that plagues our timeline's Dash.

Fluttershy: Even if Dash loses, she still gets knocked to the ground at the beginning of the race. She gets her cutie mark an minute or two later than she does in our timeline because the rainboom doesn't cut of her song early.

Applejack: Still says 'fuck it' to the Oranges and goes home. Maybe even the same day as she did in our timeline: she was clearly already homesick by then. Not much changes for her, either.

Given that the gems she insists on putting into half her costumes in our timeline always seem to make things look WORSE, she's probably even more successful in her career than she is in our timeline.

Twilight: No magic school for her! She gets her UNLIMITED POWER moment at home and away from anyone who can save her. Her parents are permanently plant-ified, and she runs off to live alone in the woods where she can't hurt anyone, Zecora-style.

You know, looking back at My Little Pony's long history, it's amazing to think it lasted as long as it did. Almost thirty years it's been around, and for what? It only got progressively worse as it carried on. Sure, people argue that the first gen was kinda cool, for it's incredibly grimdark villain, but that wasn't how the show carried on for very long. Other Hasbro properties have at least something redeeming to justify themselves with. Transformers, G.I. Joe, they all had something worth watching, but MLP was pretty much the most vapid and pointless toy shill on the air for decades. And then this happened. This amazing revival, especially after the monstrosity that was gen 3.5 as it's called. To completely reinvent the series in a way that has proven an unprecedented hit, not just for it's pretty pink ponies, but for actual merit of quality, is really an accomplishment. I think it's pretty safe to say that Lauren and her team are the best thing to happen to this franchise in a long time, possibly since it's inception.

If I may pose a theory, it might be because you chose to write her. Maybe when the art first started to make you think there was more too her, writing brought you close to the character.

I haven't had an actual art class in four years but I'm brushing up on the basics and I've got some anatomy resources. But I'm also trying to figure out tablet drawing and digital art programs with zero experience in either field. It's a bit overwhelming but when I actually sit down and do stuff, even if it comes out rough, I feel good.
