I had a sad idea for an episode where Twilight Sparkle gets a pen pal only it turns out the pen pal isn't real, it's her friends writing her letters and pretending to be a pen pal as part of a prank that's gone too far.

They're not sure how to tell her the joke's over because she keeps sending personal things and seems to be leaning on this made up pony for emotional support. Finally in one of her letters she confides what she secretly thinks of her friends in it and they can't help but bring up what she said in the letter. She figures out the pen pal wasn't real and bursts into tears.

I couldn't think of a happy ending but I couldn't stop thinking about it.

You know what show would be a good case study for ways to organize My Little Pony?

Friends.

Remember Friends? Big in the 90's/early 00's? There were six main characters, although the show tried not to make any one more important than the others.

That's a great example of a show that managed to share time between characters well, have a clearly defined set of secondary characters, have some minor characters that would rotate in and out, and so on.

You don't actually have to like the sitcom stylings or the jokes or the laugh track or any of that crap to appreciate that it handled the mechanical fundamentals of juggling a cast very well. It'd be good for My Little Pony to learn from it.

"NMM strikes again, but this time she tries to take control of a different pony/human. Her new target happens to be much more powerful and much more dominant and instead of taking control over the being, the being takes control over the NMM. Equestrians, unknowing that the being controls NMM, declares war between it and equestria. A party of 6 ponies that wield the elements of harmony chase the being. On a hunt, poor being has to escape it's hunters and somehow convince equestrians that he means no harm as well as fight the NMM inside that attempts to break free and his own corrupted desires.

Potential ship;
Luna, the only being in whole ponyverse that knows how wrong it feels to have that thing inside, searches for the being to help fight NMM. When she finds it, she realizes how powerful it is and because it represents strength that she wishes she once had, decides to help it. trying to learn about it more and help it survive, they both escape to Everfree Forrest as the last resort. The two have to fight countless battles against deadly enemies and face their own feelings that build up between them. "
