So guys, I have a theory that's sort of a work-in-progress because it probably has a bunch of loose ends..

Most of the weirdness that comes with speculating about Celestia and her powers comes from the confusion about what exactly separates her from being a full-blown goddess.
If she is actually responsible for moving the entire sun around the earth, how is she able to tend to relatively trifling matters like tea parties?
Hence my theory is that she is only one of several princesses that has this power. She controls the sun during the day as it's directly over Equestria, then "passes" it off before the day is over to another kingdom's princess (i.e. Griffon princess, Dragon princess). Luna has a similar power with the moon, but separated 12 hours from Celestia. Hence the reason she was able to threaten Equestria with eternal darkness was because she refused to hand off the moon to the next person (let's assume the moon and sun can't occupy the same sky in the MLP universe)

I thought it was a good thing that those two episodes covered similar themes but in different ways so that kids wouldn't get a sloppy moral. When a friend makes a new friend that's good, reliable, and happy to share your friend with you (the owl), you should be happy, not jealous. But when a friend makes a friend that *is* bad, mean, doesn't want to share, wants you out of their life, then it's right to show your friend that they haven't really made a friend (Gilda).

If you only learned one of those lessons you might try to apply it to the other situation, driving off a friend's friend who was a good friend OR tolerating a friend's bad friend who was driving you apart. The lesson is for kids to use their judgement.

The latest episode is quite interesting as it also kind of replays Griffon the brush-off from the perspective of the jealous character instead of the new friend.

It is just a shame that Gilda was design for the sole purpose to be given the boot as her poor attitude is highlighted significantly more than her jealous demeanor. I've always liked Gilda because of that though because sometimes the most flawed characters are the most interesting (hence the Derpy).

I know that feel, man. My friends are alright but personally I do better in smaller groups or one-on-one, and while we are all friends, nobody in the group has a particularly close bond. I miss having a 'best friend' or someone who I could talk to about anything who would spend time with me and me alone.
