The Spellsinger family is a proud noble family of unicorns with a strong talent for magic. They have stayed pure of mixed blood from other ponies, both of a different breed or different caste. Except once...
Star Glory, daughter of the Archmagus of Donaran, flitted with males during her younger years, and at some point forgot to enact the proper protective spells. When her foal was born it was a female Pegasus.
Disgraced, she and her foal was disowned and banished from family grounds, stripped of her name and with all record of her existence destroyed. Glory went mad with grief and convinced herself that she had never been a part of the Spellsingers, passing these beliefs onto her daughter. Her insanity grew to the point where she started altering herself and her daughter to differ in appearance, leading finally to her death when she ripped her own horn out and believed herself to be a Pegasus, throwing herself off a cliff in a attempt to fly.
The filly that would go under the name Rainbow Dash has only fragmented memories of her past, but the scars run deep. Even when she's dying her hair to keep herself from looking like something she can't remember she doesn't think twice about it. It's just a automatic reflex. She isn't even capable of understanding her unpainted self enough to correlate with the appearances of her cousin Pokey Pierce, who moved into Ponyville recently, or her half-sister Trixie...
However, while the unicorn can be taken from a Spellsinger the magic cannot. It only manifests itself in other ways... |
