I'm not American, so maybe I lack the perspective. The bison represent the native people you killed when you colonized the country, right? But you stylize a sympathetic faction after them and teach a lesson about cooperation. It's kind of a bizarre denial of genocide since the show gives the impression that "cowboys and indians" could (and perhaps did) work out their problems rather than all the indians dying and the few survivors getting coralled on to reserves.

I don't know, the whole affair seems in terrible taste. My people have performed our fair share of violence against different races and populations but we wouldn't make a children's cartoon about how it was all a big misunderstanding and everyone should learn to forgive each other.

To be fair, the slavery thing was only one part of the problems that lead to the American Civil War. There were plenty of other factors.

One of the big reasons behind the Emancipation Proclamation in the first place was to get the support of the African American's on both sides of the conflict, as well as to look appealing to other countries who might decide to lend support.

Yes, it was good for ending the American slave system, but underneath it all it was a big publicity stunt.
