Theory: the Gala episode will be a mirror of the first episode.

It'll start with the illuminated-manuscript style of the first prologue, but narrated by Luna's voice abd recapping the events of the first two episodes, talking it up like a big epic legend. Cut to Twilight, and her reaction to a pony historian writing it. Intro. As the main episode goes on, Twilight receives signs that something's going to happen - a legendary prophecy, observing the night sky. Four stars circle the moon. But she's distracted by the rest of the mane cast as they prepare for the Gala, and this time she willingly disregards her findings to help them. Eventually they reach the Gala, and as evening draws in, Celestia reveals that for the first time in a thousand years, Luna will raise the moon.

But as the curtain draws back, she's gone!

As the gasps fade, four streaks of light descend from on high and four ponies appear, alicorns like the Princesses, each with an astrological star-symbol on their flanks. They are the Star Ponies, who freed Luna in exchange for her promise of eternal night, and now she's reneged, they've imprisoned her again. They deliver an ultimatum to Celestia: let the night last forever, or she will never see her sister again!

Dash - Self assured and competitive
AJ - Hard working and responsible
Twilight - intelligent and organized
So on and so on.

I believe that shipping our need to bring the Pony embodiment of our favorite personality traits together.
I personally like the Idea of Fluttershy and Big Macintosh. I see Fluttershy as a someone who is kind but lacks confidence unless doing something she likes or is encouraged. Big Mac is strong dependable and sensible. By shipping the two, Fluttershy get a steady ego boost that allows her to be herself and Big Mac is the recipient of the extra kindness. Sensibility and strength is rewarded with kindness and self worth has then been stabilized.

I ask you to look at the characters you like to ship and do they do the same for you? What brings them together in your mind?

Something I am worrried about is the clarity of the time, it is set before Twilight arrived in Ponyville but I wasn't sure if Pinkie was friends with the other ponies or not, so I chose a pony I thought would have been her friend. I have a pony folder with 929 files taking up 4.3 gb on my hard drive. I name all of my photos as if I'm tagging them, and keep it short for convenience, just having to remember the tags, so the mane cast would be r for Rarity, ts for Twilight Sparkle, ect. Magic sort of confuses the issue, and they do have things like trains (albeit ones they... manually pull for some reason). Pinkie Pie's actually quite the engineer if you consider some of her devices.

It's probably reasonable that whatever technology they want to have for an episode they can find a way to work in. Having a straight up internet equivalent though is probably stepping over a few lines and would look clumsy, better they focus on something like mailing someone you don't know in real life (a possibly risky activity for a naive little girl) to make a moral out of.
