It's got to be hard to know how to react to the breakout success. They'll likely be sensible and keep the show for the kids it's meant to be for, but they may take the opportunity their success has given them to deliver an even higher quality show to children and those in touch with their inner child.

Hasbro keeping their hands off of the creation of the show can only improve it's quality. Apparently Lauren will include Luna in S2 as well as an overarching villain. This will probably lead to a stricter continuity and which will probably include world building and much better material for character exploration.

Hopefully we will see the same if not better quality episodes compared to S1, and if the money keeps coming in from the toys, we will probably get a season 3 or even a fourth season. That would be at least 80 episodes of pony goodness!

What I wouldn't like to see is a sense of self-awareness as possessed by Regular Show and Adventure Time, which are both the sort of childrens' shows that specialize in not being childrens' shows. They're like meta-childrens' shows, and although they're perfectly suitable for children there's sometimes a question of who's really the target demographic. It's not bad, but it's a different approach.

With My Little Pony there is zero doubt the target is little girls (and I guess little boys of 21st century parents). That's where a lot of the charm comes from in the show and it'd be a pity if success was taken to mean they need to make the show more winking and self-aware to justify it.

If they want to get more ambitious by having more elaborate stories stretched over a couple episodes, or reusing characters, or having some flashy scenes, or more *challenging* scenes, that all sounds like good fun. Or if they want to keep doing like they're doing, that's good too. I enjoyed the first season and I don't doubt I'd enjoy a second.
