The Many Colors of Rainbow Dash, or "In MY Fanon..."
My personal backstory is that Gilda, Rainbow Dash, and Derpy were all in flight school together; Derpy was the big sister to both of them, and was even more of a delinquent than either, but always a faithful friend and also one of the best fliers the junior speedsters ever had. Unfortunately, her brash attitude got the better of her and she got into an accident—I haven't decided the nature of it, yet—and suffered severe head trauma that dramatically reduced her mental capacity, making her into the screwball we know and love. Dash took the blame for it and, unable to take the pressure, decided to drop out of school against Gilda's wishes; it was originally Derpy's dream to finish flight school and sign up for the Wonderbolts, and she reasoned it would be shameful for them to give up on that after everything Derpy had done for them.
Unable to resolve the dispute, they parted ways. Dash never finished school and moved in near Derpy's new home in Ponyville (Derpy was no longer allowed to have a home high in the sky due to her condition). Gilda went on and graduated with top honors, but due to race issues it's incredibly difficult for her to join competitions, much less try out for the Wonderbolts, so she takes odd jobs throughout the skies over Equestria. After what happened to Derpy, she would rather work to achieve her goals before it is too late, and if she must do so without friends, so be it. Gilda honestly believes the other ponies are holding Dash back, but at the same time envies her for being able to stick with Derpy.
I don't know if Gilda visited Derpy after Griffon The Brush Off. If she did, it was probably very quick. |
