I'm not sure if this idea has been toss around yet, but here's something I thought of on the toilet last night.

Twilight Sparkle is not Celestia's only student and her adventures are no unique to her. She requires that all of her students learn the true meaning of friendship, and she has a certain way of going about it. The threat that Nightmare Moon posed at the beginning of the season? Nonexistant; Celestia was in on it the whole time. That's why there is six elements of harmony; she set it up that way so her students could gain 6 bffs.

Celestia keeps the students themselves separated in different cities so they don't catch on. I mean, things have to function the same no matter where you are in Equestria, right? The Winter Wrap-Up happens at the same time, and that race that clears the forest of leaves or whatever. All happening at the same time in different cities. Now, since some lessons that are essential to friendship come from hardship, Celestia has to push things in that direction, i.e. plague of parasprites. She even says that the same thing was happening in Fillydelphia at the time, right?

Also, in all of the groups of friends that Celestia has her students make, there's always one from the Apple family. The Apple clan is located all over Equestria, so it doesn't seem too unreasonable for that to be true, too.

It doesn't help that a vast majority of members of this fandom are probably experiencing a fandom this large and active for the first time right now, so they're still learning how things work. They probably come in and see us joking about things like Dash being a lesbian, see a few things in the episode that sways their opinion, and decide that we're being completely serious.

I think after the season finale, the fandom will calm down enough for the new members to realize their mistakes and by the time the second season starts we'll be much better off.

Guys, i think I have an problem relating to ponies. I have barely a vague interest the world around me, and my life is at a crucial stage.
