“My name is Colonel William Haynes,” he said loudly to the horse, as if speaking to a deaf man, or perhaps one with mental deficiencies. But he still spoke to it, not at it. As if this thing were another human being. “You are hereby taken as a... as a prisoner of war.” Haynes spat it out like a curse, and indeed, he felt like it – he was taking a horse as a damned POW. “As our policy requires, you must tell me if there are any more like you in the vicinity.” Sure as hell, the creature shook its head slowly... and then opened its mouth to speak. “No, j-just me,” it said nervously in what Haynes would have been convinced was the voice of a young adult man. “This whole area's p-pretty empty, well, it was until you showed up, but no other ponies, really.” “Good,” Haynes said. “You did well.” The thing seemed to smile happily at that, and such would be its final expression as Haynes drew his pistol and shot the creature in the head in one fluid motion. As its lifeless body crumpled, Haynes didn't waste time watching it die; he turned on his heel and headed back to his HQ tent. This area was clean of the... freaks of nature. Soon, it would be time to move on to more challenging locales. |
