>>24834770 Tripcodes are created by inserting a # hashmark into the Name field followed by a string of characters, like a password. My example here uses the name "aeiou" followed by a tripcode generated from the word "hashmark". They're generally useful for identifying yourself, such as when having a back-and-forth dialogue, gathering responses or feedback on a specific topic, or for giving yourself a bigger e-peen. Most of 4chan posts anonymously, so "tripping" is generally frowned upon. Users choose to use their tripcodes as often as they desire and for whatever reason they deem appropriate.
For example, suckmyoff is currently asking for feedback on lyrics; to make sure that people are talking to her specifically, she uses a tripcode to identify herself. Hoppip on the other hand just uses a tripcode out of habit to maintain a sense of identity while posting.
People often complain about tripfriends trying to hog all the attention, but there are too many personal reasons and motivations for tripping that you may as well ignore it and try to continue meaningful discussions.
For a drawfriend like yourself, I would recommend using a tripcode when you are posting art or taking requests, so people know for sure that they are talking to the artist. Me, I do art, but I have yet to post it under a tripcode, since I don't feel I've been doing anything to warrant identification. |
