Reposting this from an earlier thread. I have a theory.
Plenty of cultures have deities that don't conform to traditional genders, because of the fact that they are higher beings. It's common to find myths or religious stories about gods who can change or have changed genders, or are actually both genders. When you look at the Princesses of Equestria, you immediately notice that they don't look like other ponies. Even Luna, who is smaller and more closely resembles the mortal ponies, look very different. Think about it, what are the gender differences on this show? Females have rounded faces, are just a light touch more slender in some areas, and are a bit smaller. Males tend to have squared faces and boxy jawlines, and are usually a bit bigger. Now look at Celestia and Luna. Their faces aren't rounded, or completely square, they have the features of both genders combined. And they are both larger than your average pony. They may identify as female, but this may just be to seem a bit more approachable to normal ponies, not like otherworldly beings.
tl;dr, Celestia and Luna are possibly hermaphrodites or androgynous. |
