That's a good question. Besides it being cute and having a couple of funny/shocking moments per episode, there's not much else going for it. They aren't allowed to do story arcs, so there isn't a whole lot of mythology to lure you in. I guess it's mostly hivemind stuff, really.

I started watching it when I saw a thread on /v/, actually. Back then, I didn't use /co/ very much, and hung around /v/. I had gotten kind of sick of it at that point. Some drawfriend was asking what would /v/'s pony be like, and everyone was all WHAT, PONIES? PONIES ARE FAGGY, FUCK THAT NO NO and other general shitty /v/ things. Anyway, I was sort of puzzled and why My Little Pony was suddenly brought up on 4chan, and the OP linked me to the first episode.

So, I watched it, and really enjoyed it. In doing so, I decided to migrate to /co/, since I was already big on Adventure Time and Regular Show, but had totally forgotten that there was a board for cartoons and comic books. I found the place to be very welcoming, and it rekindled my passion for cartoons and comics again.

Ponies brought back a passion in my life, actually.

It was February when I watched the show. I was looking for a new show to watch, and I decided to watch Panty & Stocking. Somehow, I decided to watch FiM instead. I had read that people around my age (and gender) liked it and it was made by Lauren Faust so I gave it a shot. The first episode I watched was "Feeling Pinkie Keen." which I didn't care for too much because I'm not a huge fan of slapstick. Then I watched "The Ticketmaster." and that's really what hooked me in. I'm just really slow on these things, so I don't understand how the MLP fanbase is not part of the furry fandom by this definition.

I'm probably wrong here, but to me it looks like we are fans of fictional animals with human personalities, they have human mannerism, and customs, and exhibit human like intelligence and thus seem to fit the definition rather well.

Nothing too spectacular. 2 weeks after the first episode aired I went to /co/ to see what you all thought of it and it got positive reception. I watched episode 1 part one but part 2 wasn't out yet so I gave up on it. Then a few weeks later, was bored and gave the show another chance, and here I am today.

Well... I watched the pilot on youtube back when it was first coming around. It was ok, but I couldn't find any more. Come to find out there wasn't any more yet. So I kinda just left it there. Made a couple reaction image macros of the pink one and went about my business. As time passed, I took note of it becoming popular on /co/, but didn't pay it much mind, until I think... Thursday last week maybe? I had nothing better to do that day, so I decided to humor /co/ and hop into a pony stream.

I ended up watching for nearly four hours. I'm now in the process of acquiring decent quality mkvs of all the episodes, am drawing ponies in the margins of my notes, am irritated that there's no new episode this friday, and think that Pinkie Pie is the best pony ever, ever.

To deny that MLP is anthropomorphic would be ridiculous, that doesn't neccesarily make it "furry", furry is just a general term used to refer to a whole range of fandom, most use the derogatory connotation which refers to the characteristics of a certain fandom rather than the actual content of whatever it is being fanatacised over.

In this sense MLP fandom is devided between those who are "furry" and those who are not "furry". I wouldn't really call it funny, I just don't see the point of it. It was incredibly bland to me, as it was only filled with senseless violence. It could be compared to reaction images, only those at least can summon images of actual living people being harmed, where as this story simply has colorful ponies being mutilated. The image I think up for that isn't really disturbing, it's just a dead cartoon horse.

There are a million background ponies which can replace them anyway.

Yikes, this is a pretty good topic for a post. There's people still talking about the OP and the thread's over 200 posts. Might as well share mine.

I saw a little blip about how some pony show had done a nod to their fanbase by including a character that was made up, so I watched the linked video of "Feeling Pinkie Keen". I didn't think too much about it. It was okay, certainly a lot better than the trash that my sister used to watch way back when.

Later that day, I decided that I was bored enough and looked up the first episode, and was pleasantly surprised that the show was better than the episode I'd watched. Then I decided to find out where this "Derpy" character originated from and found my way onto /co/. I hadn't ever done much on 4chan before, so I just lurked the threads long enough until I felt comfortable posting.

I had discovered /tg/'s RubyQuest via TV Tropes. I'm happiest while roleplaying, so I hung out on /tg/ and read the threads; this was back before it was always 40K all the time.
