Flash is a tool like any other, its not its fault MLP looks barely servicable, its the animators who cannot use its tools probarly. There is no arguing in my mind that some aspects of this show is very poor, even considering its budget. And one of those is as I said the visibly poor squash and stretch, using example of the manes and tails again, it doesn't look natural, it has that tangible rubbery look that comes from not actually rendering enough independent frames of movement. And all of its bounciness only accentuates the resize-rotate nature of Flash and the lack of hand-drawn animation.
>"recycling of models," isn't that just efficient workflow?
Theres a difference between using a model a few times and having All the female ponies use ONE model. Adding to that, All the male ponies use ONE model. All the young ponies use ONE model. There is nearly universal re-use of poses, expressions, and models. The few characters that do have original models are incidental: Snips, Snails, a couple of side-characters like Mr Cake. ALL the main characters have the same model. They ALL share the same expressions, and rarely have expressions and animations of their own. I think thats a lot less forethought than your like to give credit for
Adding to this, it's also full of animation errors (character colours change from show to show, sometimes scene to scene; ponies gain and lose wings or horns or other features). The background is full of copy pasted duplicates and duped faces with identical expressions, and similar shortcuts all to keep the animation budget to a minimum. It's not as bad as, say, Rush Zone's animation, but it's definitely noticeable. |
