    Reported.
    >> As Narrated By Ron Perlman Nopony Important 03/16/11(Wed)14:01 No.24334058
It was the second decade of the 21st century when magic began returning to the world. It started off small, minor "mutations" in babies that had them resembling certain races of legends past, stage magicians performing tricks even experts in the profession couldn't explain, a massive upswing in reports of "paranormal" events. This was all largely ignored or suppressed in the media, depending on the country, but not for very long. By 2015 it'd become common knowledge amongst most people that the world was getting weirder in ways science couldn't explain. Five years after that, it was announced by several major universities that "magic" was quite real, verifiable, and that it was on the increase. Amongst certain groups of academics it caused a minor flurry, but it quickly became acknowledged as simply another aspect of nature to study.

By 2025 there was enough hard data covering magic, and a large enough increase in its background levels that it became commercially viable to exploit, and not a moment too soon. Peak Oil was hitting hard and fast, but with the fledgling sciences of Thaumaturgy and Alchemy taking off, it wasn't nearly as much of an issue as it could have been. Within another decade, large portions of the industrial infrastructure supporting society had been transformed, though to most people it was essentially transparent. It didn't much matter whether they filled their car with gasoline or charged it at a Ley Tap, whether they had something shipped via truck or a shunted through the astral plane. As long as they had their entertainment and fast food and air conditioning, it didn't matter how it worked, only that it did.

By 2040 those megacorperations who'd most benefited from the influx of magic were having a problem. There was substantial evidence to indicate that magic was cyclical but irregular, and that within perhaps as little as 20 years it could all be gone again, possibly for thousands of years. More importantly, the increases in the Global Background Count weren't rising fast enough to meet their intended profit margins. Some people would write of conspiracies and Global Agendas by Secret Leaders Of The World. Truth is, greed and profit motive don't need any such organization, or even so much as communication between interested parties. Within a year hundreds of plans were set in motion. They were old plans, ones that had been tried many times before by civilizations lost to time, desperate to save their opulent lifestyles. None of them had ever succeeded.

None of them had been enacted during the upswing of magic though, always done in desperation as the lifeblood of their empires waned, when it was too late to change anything. None of them had been enacted on a global scale, involving everything from astral gates to remote Ley Taps cast deep into the Nevernever, to satellites in orbit siphoning the tiny scraps of aether from the void and transporting them back to Earth. No single one of the new plans was entirely successful, but collectively they did the impossible. They Broke The Cycle. By 2045 there was more magic available than the Earth had ever seen at any one time, and it was still increasing. Profits soared, populations boomed, and no one in a position of any real importance had ever thought to ask if maybe that Cycle had existed for a reason.

The girls marvel at how Pinkie is so energetic and can eat so many sweets, so she introduces them to 'The Pinkie Pie Diet'. Pretty soon, everyone's grotesquely fat. Pinkie realizes what she's caused and reveals that the other side of the Pinkie Pie Diet is to exercise like crazy to balance out all of the food.

Now before anyone suggests that this is just an attempt to get feeder fetish art, that's not the real reason. It's been bothering me that Pinkie has been shown to eat copious amounts of food with no consequences, and I think that sends a bad message to the little girls that this show is actually aimed towards. It would be a chance to actually get a very good and clear moral inserted into an episode.

It was late 2050 when the first problems started showing up. Temporal glitches with telecommunications, astral delivery services having packages arrive multiple times without being shipped, more and more cases of even magically confirmed "dead" people getting back up and walking around for varying periods of time. It was only the beginning. Reality was breaking down. The natural order of the universe could handle obscene amounts of meddling by arcane forces, provided it always had a period of time to recover and reorient it's self without interference. That wasn't happening though, and it would never happen again.

As the years passed, the environment became increasingly unstable. Weather became erratic, ceasing to occur at all without intervention in some places, others would be rocked by constant storms that had no reasonable means to exist. The plates began shifting erratically, the earthquakes that should have come with this happening only occasionally matching with where the movement was happening. Any crops that hadn't been moved to hydro- or aeroponic farming towers seemed to thrive or wilt with little regard for how they were cared for. Unaltered animals seemed to lose many of their basic instincts, or at least the ability to act on them. Those that had been twisted to suit the whims of their creators began further changing, seemingly by their own will in some cases. No longer acting as pets or guards or workers but as thinking beings who had little regard for their creators, they began forming their own societies. Sometimes via mass exodus to an area of land they would try to take for themselves, others outwardly appearing to "know their place" while they waited and plotted for the right opportunity.

Some groups tried to reverse what had been done, but it quickly became clear the world had long passed the point of no return. Even efforts to stabilize things were of little aid, often serving only to make things worse by causing cascading fluctuations in the magic that the world was now stewing in. As the chaos increased, tempers flared, Corporations blamed Governments and rivals, Governments blamed Citizens, Citizens took up arms and spells to protect themselves and to strike back at anyone or anything they thought was responsible, and Mankind's forsaken children tried to either stay out of the crossfire, or play as many sides against the middle as possible.
On October 13th, 2060, the day the Oblivion Wars started and the beginning of the Final Collapse there were 14 billion souls on Earth.
When it was over, when the last of the bombs had fallen and the continents finally stopped shifting, on what would have been recorded as March 3rd, 2061, there were less than twenty thousand humans clinging to life on a broken world.

If anything the fandom plays it up more than the show does. Also there's probably a better way to convey a moral about physical fitness, like Rainbow gets everyone to start playing sports together or something. "Don't eat too much or you'll get fat" is a little negative don't you think?

Many of those that survived did so by pure chance. Those that had the resources to ensure their own survival, the ones rich and powerful enough to make it through nearly anything in comfort had been priority targets of nearly everyone, rivals, subordinates, citizens and favored pets. The pockets of survivors were small and widely scattered, few having any surviving means contact others. But even so, there was a commonly accepted fact among them. Humanity had it's chance, and they'd blown it. The Earth, however, would live on in spite of what it had been through. Some animals adapted quite well to this new world, others needed help to get by, help that was often provided by the now masterless creations that had survived.
One such group of former workers had the good fortune to have "adopted" a groups of humans. Over time the two groups became more or less inseparable, even as the little ponies thrived while the humans became fewer and fewer.

In time, the last few humans living with the ponies, having become rather accomplished magi by necessity, gave there little friends the best chance they could in the world, helping them learn to take care of a world that could no longer care of its self. They magi did all they could think of to give the best of themselves, to put the ponies on a path that hopefully wouldn't, couldn't repeat the mistakes of the past. Though it would take them decades of perpetration, they worked fervently to give their little charges one final gift, something that they might live as their own society, without the shadows of their foolish creators looming over them. It was a wholly unremarkable and unrecorded night when an utterly exceptional little foal was born. Several years later, when the Five had recovered enough from the previous ritual, they again pooled their power, to give the brilliantly white filly a little sister.

Having done all that they could, they spent their remaining years teaching the sisters all they could of magic and compassion, of art and science, of the wonders of the slowly healing world and how to protect it and the ponies who looked up to them. As each passed, they left behind their power, tied to both a physical object and one of the virtues they'd done their best to teach the growing fillies, and an unspoken promise of aid should it ever be needed.

Oh, a brief write-up can't really convey how entertaining this could be... Try to imagine a song montage with Pinkie singing, and everyone eating sweets, and the eventual aftermath where everyone has plumped out to the point of being unable to walk and just drag/roll themselves around. Imagine Pinkie walking into this scenario, as normally as usual (for her) and coming to a sloooow realization that something is wrong. Then, imagine a reprise montage as she gets every one to start exercising. Think of ponies wearing leg warmers and headbands.

    It could be really adorable.

People with "body dysphoria" feel that they're in the wrong body. When it's gender, they're transgender. When it's species, they're otherkin. When it's face shape/tail/ears/paws, they're furry.

Another factor to consider is kinesthetic imagination; that is, how vividly they can imagine feeling themselves in a different body, or as two bodies at once, or parts of a body (amputee), or in a child's body (babyfur), or as a blue cat-person with a telepathic ponytail (Na'vi-kin), etc.

And when these people, who have felt WRONG their entire lives, find art that depicts animal-people, it triggers a deep-seated feeling that they have finally found where they belong in this world.

The drama doesn't come from the fur. It comes from the inherent social awkwardness they would have displayed anyway.

Partly being out of practice with writing dialogue between multiple characters, partly because I've just been forcing too much in at a time instead of letting things flow, and partly because I haven't actually named any of my characters(seriously that's usually the last part I come up with).

Just google it. If nothing else, wikipedia will enlighten you. I mean, the sexual focus on animals that furries have does weird me out, but there's a big step between that and just having a fursona and actually going full on 'I'm a dragon, fuck you'. And yes, otherkin do fantasy animals too and a lot of them are dead serious. It's like the line between 'creepy but I don't care too much' and 'is that guy over there masturbating furiously onto a dead body?' weirdness to me.

Have something adorable to ameliorate the impact of the information.

Furries like the ponies specifically and their bodies. They may also like the show, but that's not what makes them furry.

I'm going to start working on the Applejack fic tonight hopefully, and it should be done soon, I have two scenarios:

    1. Applejack has to deal with something evil coming from the nearby woods, that seems to be taking things. She mostly ignores it, until it kidnaps Apple Bloom

    2. A cocitraice finds it's way into ponyville , and turns every[(pony)] to stone except her, and she must use her wits to outsmart the beast, and save the town.

Anyone like either of these two? I can think up others.

Faust is contractually obligated not to read fanfics, at least according to her. Flashinthepan, a layout artist, is not. And presumably other animators as well. They are not actually involved in what gets written into the show. As far as other writers than Faust, we don't know.

Other shows may do things different. It's all about preventing suits, even fraudulent suits.

Talk to a lawyer who isn't on the Internet. Make your case to them.

They will tell you during your 30 minute free consultation that you might have a case, but it's going to be nearly impossible to win.
Shop around until you find a lawyer who will ask you for money upfront, and when you hear the words "dismissed with prejudice", take that as closure: it's over, and nothing will change it.

    Sorry :(

If it's incredibly identical, indentical enough to convince a court beyond a reasonable doubt that it's been plagiarized, then the production team is out millions and millions of dollars to the original author.

If it's similar enough to go to court, the defendants will be out many thousands of dollars in legal costs, even if they win.

If the defendants can show that they don't even read fanfiction, as evidenced by contractual obligation for example, it might not even go to court.

I think the opposite actually. IRL, if you fight with someone it can get nasty. On the internet, you are basically behind a wall of anonymity - especially on sites like this. I think it causes many of the consequences of misbehavior to go away, thus leaving people to piss as much as they want.

It's just my theory. I've never read anything on the subject, though it would certainly be interesting to do so.

Some games are. And some are not. For example, aside from the latest Metroid, Nintendo has never given a shit about making cinematic games, and things are all the better for it.

But the thing is, I don't like this inferiority complex the game industry has developed lately, where they feel like they need to be as much like movies as possible or else they won't be taken seriously as art. Fuck that. Video games are not movies, and no matter how many cutscenes you stick in, they never will be. And that's a good thing. Video games offer their own unique experience. And they don't magically stop being art just because they're not like films.

Any work driven by creativity is art. The medium is unimportant.

Not just music. If you discount any medium that's used to sell and entertain, almost NOTHING is art.

There are few things that I find stupider than the idea that you can't make art and also make money. Nearly all the great classical compositions were written for pay. All of Shakespeare's plays were written with the express intention of making money off the general public. The Sistine Chapel ceiling was painted because the Pope offered Michelangelo a huge fee to do so.

No one is using the words "artistic merits" anymore, you're still clinging to a term you find convenient to cling to.

So I say again: what are the "skill and talent" (your words) that you find in the image you posted which you do not find in the image you criticize? Obviously you are assessing those images on some kind of scale, and you need to spell it out, because apparently not complying to your scale makes people stupid in your eyes.

    - you say people who post picture A are stupid

    >Please give the qualifying criteria that make the image you criticize not suitable for posting, and the image you posted, suitable for posting.
    >Failing that, your judgement is arbitrary and your conclusions are baseless.

Tell me, how bad is it. :D

Let me ask tho, how do pros ink?
I saw some videos on youtube, one with the pen tool, some with some kind of other curve tool, others with Illustrator, now that one looked nice as it automatically curves your hand drawn lines.

    I'm using PS 8 atm.

I'd like to be particulary interested in MS's techniques, I'd love to see a poni tutorial video from her. :3

Nice image. Move the eye more to the left though, and then you're on model.

There are several methods to make good lineart. Using curves / paths makes it acceptable, but it does not substitute artistic know how on line weight and such that can be accomplished using freehand drawing.

The ponies are drawn using flash, and paths, and that style is pretty unique.

The porn in question is a skillful and visually pleasant drawing by MS, but for the sake of argument let's say it has no merits other than giving people a hard-on.

So here it is. You said people who like that image (and after a lot of squirming, you actually elaborated "that image" to mean "borderline porn / porn / basic human needs") are stupid.

So, uh, you could be construed as saying "liking porn makes you stupid."

Now you revised to "parading porn around (parading your fondness of porn around) is stupid."

To which the obvious reply is, this is an adults-only imageboard on the internet known for all kinds of porn. Posting it here is not "parading it around", but if it WERE parading it around, then the best you could say is "parading your fondness of porn around makes you appear sex-obsessed or deviant."

So let's leave it at that. You think posting porn on 4chan is "parading it around."

All of this is beside the point, your point, which is "posting porn on 4chan is stupid." If you are correct, then you are willingly browsing a site where most of the content is pornographic and complaining that people post it.

    >more then just porn
Everything can be assessed on a scale. Is the drawing technically proficient, anatomy-wise? Is the linework expressive? Are the poses natural or stiff? Are the facial expressions specific or generic? Etc.

You post is "just a post", but it's also a badly-written post with poor spelling and grammar. The porn you're complaining about is skillfully drawn, and highly creative. It's "just porn", but it's skillful, creative porn.

That's beside the point you were making though. Linguistics aside, you better get used to seeing porn on 4chan.

It's a drawing. Drawings can be assessed visually.
    >try going to school for once
All along you were insistent that I'm stupid, yet you keep making spelling and grammar mistakes. Note, that doesn't make your argument wrong, it just makes your insistence on my stupidity ridiculous.
    >>24338795
    No, let's finish this here.

It's a drawing. It can be assessed aesthetically.

You yourself said there is "a concept" behind it.
    So either:

    - there is a concept behind it and that concept can be assessed
    - like you're claiming, it's "just porn" and any attribution of any kind of non-porn qualities to it is stupid.

Now, since you attribute a concept to it, then by your own words you are treating it as more than just porn, and therefore you can't even keep your own argument straight.

Also, if you insist on calling me stupid, please use correct spelling and grammar. Not that bad spelling and grammar invalidates your point, but like I said, it's comical.
