I will admit I got a few laughs out of it, thought the ending was kinda funny, and was glad that Silver Spoon and Diamond Tiara lost against the CMC (and that show was fucking atrocious, I have to wonder what Spoon and Tiara did that lost to that trainwreck), but honestly there weren't a lot of jokes and the CMC's motivations seem far too one dimensional. The element of dramatic irony--us knowing what their talents were but they themselves not realizing it--was more annoying that humorous, it took away time from what I believe are more interesting chacters, and I felt the actual performance at the end dragged on too long.

Of course it's all opinion and to each his own, but Show Stoppers was definitely the weakest episode for me.

I do remember the first Friendoff. Most people kept their projects secret until they delivered it. I also remember that while their was a lot of new content compared to most days, there wasn't really THAT much. A lot of it got made on the day of the Friendoff itself, as people realized what was going on. And that was all before the fandom really exploded. Most fanfiction is absolute garbage, this coming from someone who has been involved with fanfiction for many years. Yeah probably like 90% is horrible. Not necessarily because of the content, a lot of it is just written by people who obviously don't read literature, so they have no command of the English language. Doubly true for this fanbase, everyone rushes their stuff out without even spellchecking it or re-reading it after it's written most of the time. So yeah I don't blame anyone for not reading ponyfics. There are some gems though, if you ever felt bored enough to look for them. If not, I think that's A-Okay and you're entitled to your opinion. But, no need to be outspoken about it is there? I don't think so.

Personally though, while I don't agree with him, I don't blame the guy either. Most fanfics suck shit, and even many of the ones that are good are not something supremely stellar. Writing something good is hard, bro, and most of the people who write I'm assuming don't really put that much care into the product (hence the vast amount of fics with oddly paced and unrealistic plots, one-dimensional characters, and, my favorite, grimdark or random under the assumption that such make the fic "serious!" or "hilarious!" respectively). I'm in the process of writing a fic myself and even I realize that it's no literary masterpiece.

Well, if people enjoy writing and reading 'em, it's all good in my book. At the end of the day if you're not getting paid or laid does it really matter?

Actually, it's more accurate to say that only 10% of anything really fit into one's personal tastes. The whole "90% of everything is shit" has always struck me as a bit too "mytastes godtier yourtastes shittier" for me to really approve of it.

But yes, there is a lot of really bad fanfiction. This is because anyone can write some, and most people are working from a love of something rather than a solid grounding in writing literature. If publishers had the same standards as Fanfiction.net, Barns&Noble would have a lot more horrible stories in it.

Rather than dwelling on all the bad stuff you don't like, it'd be healthier to focus on the stuff that you do like.

I only ship for clean fun. I don't like when people take it too far and start writing chapters upon chapters about character X having a crush on character Y, or God forbid, fapfics. It's just a good way to get more of a feel for the individual personalities of each character, in my eyes, and it's pretty funny sometimes.

Lauren Faust has been forced into a lot of things for this show, some of which have been fine, some of which are annoying.
