Also, this episode is definitely not the best yet, but it is a refreshment from CMC episodes. Comparing it to Sonic Rainboom there are certain elements in it that A Dog and Pony Show doesn't have. Such as suspense leading up to RD and Rarity's performances; honestly the new episode is relatively predictable. You can't call an episode the best for having gags and humour, Pinkie Keen showed us that, however, this story did feature some plot development making his episode is more of a mix between Pinkie Keen and Sonic Rainboom. In the long run would I call this episode Celestia Tier? No. But it would make it to a High or Upper Middle Tier.

Well even if I don't get the references I thought it was a decent ep. I wasn't laughing as much as usual but it was definitely entertaining. Glad to see the whole group go on an adventure again like in Dragonshy. I just fear this is the closest we'll be getting to a Spike episode, even though half the focus was really on Rarity again. Well, it's confirmed. Rarity is auto-good-episode tier. This episode was fucking awesome.

Also I think cutie marks are even more solidified now as being at least somewhat literal, in relation to a pony's "gift" or power or whatever. Before I just assumed Rarity was one of those ponies that had a metaphorical mark, and her diamonds represented beauty or refinement or something, but she's just really good at finding gems.

Um, that was pretty clearly the implication of the entire episode. I'd imagine Rarity has been good at this since she was a filly, got her Mark by being good at finding gems, and got into the fashion business later.

I mean, her mark is three diamonds, and she is "the only one who knows how to find gems."

Sounds pretty cut and dry to me.

I know Ponies aren't born knowing spells, but Twilight has stated before that Unicorns have primal control over minor magic relating to their talent. Rarity's gemfinding technique is probably something she "just knows" how to do.
