I watched Pound Puppies after Ponies, just because someone in one of these threads said it wasn't as bad as its marketing.

It's actually a decent show. The animation is Flash, South Park quality models, but serviceable. The lip synch is spot-on. René Auberjonois voices the head dogcatcher, and John DiMaggio plays the Secret Butt Fun dog.

The restricted setting and plot appears to hamper storytelling, but not as much as it might; the main characters can escape at any time they choose, preferring to remain inside because they're the best at what they do.

The worldbuilding seems shallow, but they're doing what they can. SBF dog has a half-sister; how often do we see that, even outside of kids shows?

And with Studio B gearing up to do the next season, expect better animation. I think I'll keep watching it.

Overall I'll put my hat in with the episode being among the best. However I felt that the diamond dogs seemed under-developed in the art department. They were certainly complete and I dont' fault the artists for their general character, but Spike, the cows, , the Hydra and the Dragon are each non-pony characters that still fit into the style of the show. The Diamond Dogs didn't fit as well.

There are certain Ponies with special abilities that few others have. The, ahem, rarity of their abilities makes them highly sought for the value of what they can produce.

The Diamond Dogs attempted to kidnap and enslave one against her will, rather than pay her for her services. Then they tried to make her perform work that others could easily do, for no benefit of her own.

She had four choices: submit to a life of slavery, attempt to escape and risk death, refuse to work and risk death, or make them not want her around anymore.

So the producer went on strike, using subterfuge to prevent her work from being stolen by others. It didn't matter why they wanted the gems, it only mattered that they stole them.

She scratched at the dirt, not because she didn't want to damage her hooves, but because she knew that if she dug, they would expect her to keep digging forever. She made them pull the cart because she knew that if she pulled it, they would make her pull it forever.

Their mining enterprise showed greater profits than they had ever shown before, and yet they ended up treating her like dirt.

That's when she broke out the tears and other feminine wiles, not as an instinctual survival effort, but as a focused, rational plan.

What the heck, you guys? Rarity was going to let Spike eat a gem when she had just a tiny little wagon full. Then, when she had several large carts full, she takes away a half eaten gem from Spike and laughs at him. Like she's going to use that half eaten gem anyway. Plus, she had more than enough to make the outfits. She could have let him eat an entire cart if she wanted to.

So we were lacking in background ponies once again, but at least we got the full main cast rolling in.
