The CMC will enter the talent show in order to help get their Cutie Marks. They all agree that they don't care about winning, just about exploring their talents.

But the show only takes up 2/3rds of the episode. In the last third, Apple Bloom wins and becomes one of the most popular ponies in school, causing Scootaloo and Sweetie Belle to resent her. Diamond Tiara and Silverspoon suddenly want to hang out with her, and she enjoys finally being one of the cool kids. She begins to ignore the CMC but soon finds that the cool girls never want to go on adventures or do anything fun, they just make fun of other ponies and insult them behind their backs.

In the end Apple Bloom realizes that Diamond Tiara doesn't care about her and is just using her for her popularity. She apologizes to her friends, and CMC is back together again.

Moral: Don't let success go your head, and know the difference between a true friend and a false one.

My prediction for tomorrow's episode:

The CMC will try to create the best performance ever, but they will obsess on the details and will end up arguing against each other. At the end, they will try to perform as each one wanted to, and their act will end up on failure.
Snips, Snails and Twist will improvise an act and will have lots of fun, going with the flow and laughing at each other's wackyness until the audience and the jury end up laughing and rolling on the floor. They will be chosen as the winners.

The CMC will learn a valuable lesson about not only teamwork and compromise, but also about having fun and enjoying each other's company, which is what Snips, Snails and Twist understood right off the bat.

Pilot was a two-parter, so I had to watch the second. Decided it was passable enough to watch the third, then the fourth, and so on.

Well to be fair, Twilight was reading up on the Ursa Minor beforehand. Trixie basically had one dropped on her front door, literally, with no time to prepare herself. Twilight didn't do very well against the Hydra, and even worse against the Cocktrice (she was killed, more or less). No Batmare prep-time seems to mean certain doom in this show.

Also, I'm surprised Trixie even stayed to try to defeat the Ursa Minor at all. Trixie could have just as easily ran and left Ponyville to its demise. She didn't owe them anything after getting heckled. I think it's pretty commendable that she tried to help. I didn't see anybody else doing anything, other than Twilight of course. One could argue Trixie did it just to satisfy her own ego, but by the way her demeanor shifted at that point in the show, I think she was really trying to be helpful as best she could.

I just watched this episode, and man-oh-man did Fluttershy go uncomfortably out of character.

I guess she knows that the only way to get a full-grown dragon to listen to you is to shout commands at it like a brutish army drill-sargent, but I was expecting her to be a little bit more compassionate, not so much "ARE YOU LISTENING TO ME? YOU DON'T FUCK WITH MY FRIENDS!"
