I have shown ponies to around 10 people irl now, and none of them get hooked.

Then I come home and to hundreds of others all sucked into the same pony obsession I am.

I know mine stems primarily from their cuteness and shape, it's a shape that has appealed to me since I was 12 years old, and no real creature matches it.

I could go with the other answers, and they're true. It's funny. The animation is great and expressive, and I appreciate that. The characters twist archetypes into something unique (and I secretly study the show's work, as a writer). Ponies are adorable.

But, perhaps the main reason I stick with this show much more than any other, like Adventure Time or Avatar or even adult shows is much simpler.

It's everything I mentioned above, but NOT wrapped in various coats of cynicism and sarcasm. It makes me actually feel good at the end, rather than just entertained.
