Pony parents:

I doubt if we'll see Twilight's parents, since Celestia is sort of her "adopted mother". It's unlikely anything will be presented that would get in the way of that.

It's occurred to me that Rarity and Applejack may have had very similar upbringings. I suspect Applejack doesn't actually own Sweet Apple Acres; she just manages it for the greater Apple family--all those relations are in together in one big Equestrian agri-business. Applejack is working her butt off to demonstrate she's a good estate manager, which will let her move up in the Apple family heirarchy. Her parents probably pushed her into doing it, because that was how they were raised.

Likewise, I picture Rarity's parents putting a ton of pressure on their daughter too. They're probably extremely wealthy, but tight-fisted and emotionally cold, making Rarity want to move out of the house to get away from them. Rarity is just starting in the dressmaking business, and I figure that the reason she owns her own shop is that her parents loaned her the money to buy it. Like Applejack, she's working her butt off, only in her case to pay back her parents and finally become independent of them.

Rainbow Dash is a disappointment to her parents. She had enormous talent as a filly, but could never apply herself, and ended up dropping out of flight school and taking what is the equivalent of a street-sweeper's job so that she can have time to slack off. I picture her father as being a stern, no-nonsense, probably military type who is too proud to accept his daughter's carefree lifestyle.

I have no clue what Fluttershy or Pinkie Pie's parents might be like. Fluttershy's parents might be loud and boisterous and totally failing to understand their shy, sensitive daughter. Pinkie Pie's parents could be just as nutty as she is--perhaps she came from a whole family of lunatic ponies.

A pair of two meek, sweater vest wearing ponies who are incredibly polite and friendly. Underneath all the smiles though they are passive aggressive to each other subtly disagree with each other a lot. Nobody sees this happening except Fluttershy who wraps up into a little pony fetus position whenever they 'politely' argue.
Applejack's Family:
After a farm accident Applejack's mom and dad were injured and are now bed ridden. Big Mac and Applejack work hard to take care of their parents, and take care of Apple Blossom. Their Grandmother event went out of retirement to help. The Apple family is incredibly close and Applejack's parents feel incredibly guilty for letting their family down.

Along these lines, I kind of imagine that despite all their adventures and shit, Twilight doesn't have a whole lot in common with her friends. She's a major bookworm, she's into astronomy and science, and well...her interests seem a bit cerebral for Ponyville. So despite having so many wonderful friends, she probably still feels a bit lonely sometimes. Finally, some ponies to talk to when she needs them, and yet, all of Twilight's favorite things seem a bit...well, over their heads.

Then one night, Twilight goes wandering around, doing a little stargazing. Then Luna suddenly shows up and offers her sympathies, and they hang out, chatting about stuff and stargazing, until it's time for Luna to lower the moon.

The following morning, Twilight writes up a report to Celestia. She tells the princess that friends can be very close and incredibly diverse, even if they don't share all their interests. She also reports that finding friends who do have a lot in common with you is still a special experience, and one should always be on the lookout for opportunities to expand one's circle of friends. You never know who you'll meet.

Animation Fag here, you can tell this is fake because MLP:FiM is an adobe flash animated series.

For those of you who don't know, FHFIF was also all flash and only had a handful of animators working on ALL of it in studio. What's great about using this program to animate is that you don't need to ship out your timing sheets and copies of your story board over seas to have some less significant Asian country do the in-betweens for dirt cheap (as is the case with traditional animation.) Why? Because you can save anything you have already made previously and just copy and paste it into a new scene (not to mention tweening.)

Hey lads, I'm currently working on a (sort of grim, I guess) story involving Rainbow Dash. I also plan to have the other ponies in future chapters, but I wanted to share a tiny bit to maybe get some opinions on the story. This is also the only paragraph I've done an editing pass on. I don't know if it's bad etiquette to post this little or not but I wanted to share!

Rainbow Dash was alone in a small, rectangular room. She hadn’t the foggiest idea how she’d ended up here. She glanced about the room, a bit of fear creeping across her features. Red mist emanated from the grated floor beneath her hooves. In the middle of the room, there stood a rather narrow pillar. There was a rumbling from a pillar that sounded quite a lot like footsteps barreling up a stairwell. The pony began to trot slowly around the room, looking for a way out. She found none.
